The Jazz faced a fearsome big man tandem in Chris Bosh and Hassan Whiteside on Thursday, and were doing so without Rudy Gobert, one of the best defensive players in the league. They ended up losing the game, 92-91, but not because they lacked an interior presence.

They had one big man in Derrick Favors, and that was enough. The former third overall pick finished the game with 25 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, three steals and seven blocks. He almost singlehandedly allowed the shorthanded Jazz to push the Heat.

Favors got the start at center and dominated on both ends. He forced Whiteside into a 4-for-10 night, using his length to disrupt his post up attempts and block two of his shots. Bosh finished with 25 points, but he did a lot of his damage against the overmatched Trey Lyles and scored 11 of those in the eight minutes Favors was resting.

Told you all last year and Favors was our best player and would be an all star this year.

Because Booker was going to do a better job of defending Whiteside or Bosh? I liked the move, throw that dude out there to get bloodied a bit and see if he can get over being starstruck. I like the fact that the new Jazz don't swaddle their rookies in bubble wrap.

The move had some merits, but it was definitely a measurable factor in the L.

You could make a strong case that Favors is our best player. He's certainly our best two-way player.

Favors is tearing it up. Our starting front court of Gobert/Favors/Hayward is elite.
 
It would've been nice to see what Withey could do. He couldn't be much worse than Lyles. I appreciate that Quin is trying to give a younger player the time needed for development, but Lyles is currently close-to-useless.
 
Didn't realize Favor splay was this good but:

Career highs in PPG, RPG, APG, SPG, BPG and FG% 10-16 feet. Over 8 games where he only played half of 1 and had the flu for another.
