Eenie-Meenie's Up Close and Personal Observations of the Jazz versus Pacers Game, Oct. 31

This was the first time I've had a chance to see the Jazz in person since Matt Harpring was on the team, so you know it's been awhile. I had great seats and saw a lot more than I could ever see on TV. A lot of you who live in Utah might take this for granted, getting to see the Jazz in person often.

Anyway, the first half was ugly. The Pacers were pushing, bodying, grabbing, hacking, fouling the Jazz several times on every possession and the refs were not calling anything. During the first half they played at the basket I was sitting near and I saw everything. However, I think it was the Pacers aggressive play in the first half that cost them the game.

In the second half, the Jazz came out with a vengeance. Hayward and Burks were just barreling into the hoop and I think it knocked the Pacers back on their heels. Gordon was especially aggressive. I think this showed that the Jazz are not going to be intimidated by teams, and Jerry would've loved this -- I imagine he was at the game. Rudy owned the boards and Derrick came around offensively -- in the first half they were pushing, hacking and getting away with murder against Favors. C.J. was blatantly pushing with him his hands and there were no calls. But the aggressive play of the Pacers caught up with them and I think they played so hard and so physical in the first half that they simply ran out of gas in the second half. At the same time, if the refs called the game properly in the first half (didn't see a problem in the second half), I think the score would've been a lot different.

Other observations. Some people were saying Burke had a great game. Yes, he scored and did make some good plays, but he also made a lot of bad plays -- lost Hill several times. I really think though that Quin is trying to work with and develop his play. You may have noticed that though he scored 15 point and Neto 0, Neto had a + 17 pt differential and Burke a + 4. The team just seems to play better and in more control when Neto is the PG. The same thing happens when Ingles is on the floor.

I think it was a great win for the Jazz because they were able to fight through the bad reffing and come away with a dominating victory, when in the first quarter it looked like they were going to be dominated.

Oh, and Myles Turner was really impressive.
