With all the moaning about equality lately, why don't we ever talk about equality between the genders in the judicial system? This pisses me off.

Think a male teacher/coach would have received a similar punishment?

WEST JORDAN — The judge said he "struggled mightily" with what to do with former Riverton High School teacher Courtney Jarrell.

On the one hand, she was a teacher who became sexually involved with a student and 3rd District Judge Bruce Lubeck said that alone called for punishment. On the other hand, everyone in the case — including prosecutors and the victim — were asking for a sentence of probation without any time behind bars.

"Everyone involved seems to think there should be no jail," he said Tuesday. "I've gone back and forth and back and forth I won't say how many times, because still and all … you were a teacher and she was a student. It's been very troubling."

Ultimately, the judge sentenced the 23-year-old woman to 18 months' probation, 100 hours of community service and a $900 fine. He sentenced her to one year of jail on each of three counts of sexual battery, a class A misdemeanor, but suspended the jail time.

NO JAIL TIME? YOU GOTTA BE ****ING KIDDING ME! Seriously, has male teacher in the last 20 years, convicted of this crime faced ZERO jail time? Does this teacher even have to registered as a sex offender? So if I'm caught peeing outside, I must register. But this teacher caught raping a student, nothing? What the ****?

What would happen if a male was caught of doing the exact same? Oh wait, already been done and tested:

Under the plea deal, Pratt's charges could run concurrently, which would give him a minimum time of six years to life in prison.

and I remember seeing on the news a few months ago a Provo High teacher facing a similar sentencing.

So if you're male? You're perverse and deserve to have the book thrown at you.
If you're female? Awwwwww shucks. People make mistakes. Slap on the wrist.

It reminds me of that South Park episode where all the cops are high fiving the male student for getting it on with the woman teacher. Such a double standard.

I agree with you Thriller. How about we address the rich folk sentencing vs the poor folk while we are at it? Do you remember the recent case of the rich high school kid who got off because his rich parents didn't teach him right from wrong. If I was convicted of this crime (I would never do it) I would ask the court why my sentence is worse than Case A... The I would file an appeal based upon gender bias.

Female teacher not going to jail for sexing up a lucky student..... meh.
 
For one thing the charges in the 2 cases are substantially different, as are the age differences. Each case needs to be tried on its individual merit, as well as taking precedent into account.








And yeah trout is right, chick on chick is pretty freaking awesome.

You're right. Some people refer to this as a "P pass." P standing for, well, yeah.
