I have always been intrigued by this. Since Evans found himself a jump shot this off season, why not try it? Doesn't it make more sense than having him trying to guard PF's?

Evans is:

Lightning quick
Able to run with the fast offense that Corbin wants
Tall for the position 6'9"
Incredibly long 7'6" wingspan!
Finally has a consistent jump shot (as has been showcased since summer league)
Scores with moves that face the basket (jump shots, dunks, layups)
A pogo stick
Hayward's best friend in league. They have good chemistry (reference Hayward to Evans assist that only Evans could've caught from last night).
Foul prone when guarding bigger PF's.

Evans isn't:
Thick enough to play PF night in and out.
Doesn't really have a post up game.
Able to maintain ground against stronger forwards are posting him up.

No way in hell do I start Evans. He isn't that good. I'd rather have this starting lineup:

Garrett
Burke
Hayward
Kanter

And that lineup sucks.

I don't think he is a 3, but RJeff sucks, so why not? If he proves he can play more than like 15 minutes a night, then that is just a bonus of the expiriment.

Start Marvin Williams at the 3 (after his return from surgery), and play Evans at the back-up 3/4.

Let me complicate this: Who do we keep period: Marvin or Jeremy? Don't give me age crap, they are only a little over a year apart in age.

Keep Evans because he is cheap, but if Marv wants to come back, and we need a wing/stretch 4, then maybe keep him too.

Even if we knew what Evans could really do, it would depend upon what we needed after the draft. Right now, who knows?

I think if Evans started he could help the Jazz get some quick easy baskets off of lay-ups, dunks, and back-door cuts like Ronnie Brewer used to do. They should turn Evans into Brewer 2.0.

Lol.
Corbin not starting his boy jeffy...... lol

Another reason to start Evans is to increase the pace of offense. Corbin keeps complaining about speed of offense, but he can't expect it with a dinosaur like R.J.

In my objective, totally unbiased observation during last night's game: speeding up the tempo has nothing to do with foot speed and everything to do with ball handling ability. They don't have enough players who can dribble and run at the same time (see Alec Burks trying to run the brake lolz). Jeremy Evans will not fix that at the three.

I get that you want to see Evans more though.

Well this really can't be answered long term just yet. They do different things, and they both just barely got back from injury. Evans is signed for next year, Marvin isn't. Evans' contract is dirt cheap (1.75m next year), and he's Hayward's best friend in the league (which has to count for something if we're trying to keep Hayward). I think Evans is also someone the Jazz want to commit to. Evans has been our project, if he shows he can contribute regularly, he'll stay beyond the 14-15 season (when his current contract expires)> I don't see Evans involved in any trades unless Hayward walks. Jeremy helps to bring peace to locker room on a nightly basis, no matter what.

Burke is back, he can run and dribble. Before, it was Hayward and Lucas (and that was the problem). With Burke and Hayward, you don't need more ball handlers running. Either Burke or Hayward will have the ball on the fast break, so Evans can run free ahead.

I think Lucas was too small too run far fast. I think R.J. is too old to run far fast.

he wasn't just talking about a fast break.

There are only a few wings in the NBA that really can't handle. I'm guessing that all of them are deadly spot-up 3-pnt shooters.

Really, what does it hurt to try starting him at the 3 for a few games? Will it mess up our current awesome chemistry?

If he fails at it, we are still losing games and winning the tank race.

If he succeeds at it, we'll still likely be losing games and winning the tank race, but will have added another weapon to our arsenal moving forward. Evans will have become more valuable as a trade piece, or just make more sense as a legit backup to Parker or Wiggins next year. Role players have to develop too. Sometimes, the best bench players were once starters.
