Exhibit 10 Chit.

It appears the only Exhibit 10 contract the Jazz has signed so far is with Babacar Sane. The deals that were signed with Armando Bacot and Max Abmas have apparently been torn up. Yesterday the Celtics signed Lonnie Walker IV to an E10 and the Wiz did the same with Kira Lewis, Jaylen Nowell and Leaky Black.

The Stars may have committed an Exhibit 10 tell today. They traded two players and got a GLeague draft pick and a 7'235 lbs center back who played for Coach Woj at Marquette. The guy led the GLeague in rebounding in 22-23 and played in Europe last season.

What, pray tell, is the tell here? How does it relate to Exhibit 10? The only thing I can tell about this move is that the Stars are stacking up on bigs: there's this guy, Tshiebwe and Potter as 2-ways, and Filipowski as a possible assignee.

Btw, the center in question is former Ute (and one-year Marquette player) Jayce Johnson? Do we have any Ute fans here that can tell us anything about him? I don't see anything, from his Realgm profile, that says he played last year in Europe. He seems to have played most of the year for Detroit's G-League affiliate.

That's the guy. He led the GLeague in rebounding year before last playing for the Santa Cruz Warriors. He played for coach Woj at Marquette. He's older so I doubt he's a prospect for the Association.

Can anyone help me better understand this aspect of Exhibit 10s?:

In prior years (maybe not the most recent last few), it seemed like E10 contracts were rotated in training camp itself. That is, if you cut one E10 guy to pick up another, it would be during the training camp, and the players involved would physically participate in training camp for whatever short period they were under the E10.

Recently, it seems that the rotating is happening (largely?) before camp even begins. So Goodwin was cut yesterday, Babacar today, for example, presumably to make way to give out more E10s.

Has there been a change in the rules, or even just the practice of all this (am I simply wrong in imagining that things worked differently in the past)? Do those cut on E10 contracts before camp get any run in training camp?

You can sign exhibit 10s at any time. During the regular season they count against your cap though, but during offseason they just cost money and not cap space.

I also understand that many teams use it as a way to provide "bonus money" to their G Leaguers, as there is a bonus clause in exhibit 10 deals that if a player is on that deal and then gets waived and stays with the G League affiliate, they get extra 75k$ bonus after spending 60 days with the G League team.

So these guys are used as training dummies as its free in terms of cap space, and many of them probably end up playing for the Stars. You can only have 6 of them at any given time, so teams cut them when they have other guys they wanna bring in to evaluate. Doesnt mean the guys getting cut wont make the Stars roster and still get the 75k bonus.

Like for instance Babacar Sane was signed to Exhibit 10 during the most quiet time of the offseason (14th of August). From Sane's perspective he gets a meal ticket and a great facility to practice in, and for Jazz they get a prospect who is likely going to commit to your G League team because of the bonus money.

Oh and one more bonus of exhibit 10 is that you can convert them into two-way contracts without waiving the player. I think our two-ways are set though, so I dont think thats in play for us.

Not sure you've really addressed the training camp questions (including whether the use during/before training camp has been changing over time by the Jazz), but I do appreciate the fuller understanding you've provided.

E10s are a way to recruit for the GLeague team and pay them a little more while playing there. I think with Homey math a player can receive just over $100,000 if they stay with the Stars all season.

My guess is the Jazz don't really care about having these dudes in camp all that much consdering they have been doing OTAs for a while now and have probably seen enough and want to clear space to sign new dudes to see new dudes.

Yeah, this makes some sense -- that the OTAs have kind of assumed some of the function of past training camps in terms of taking a look at guys.
