So I'm not a facebook user. I do have an account because it's almost required for some things and because some business use it as their primary means of communication with their customers. Anyway, I was on my page the other day because I was playing words with friends on my PC instead of my phone. I see that my sister liked Amazon.com and I say to myself "this is why I don't like facebook" I mean, who needs to share that and who else gives a ****, right? Then I'm noticing all sorts of weird posts or notifications or whatever, like stuff in russian, blah, blah. I wonder why it's so dominant on my page. Long story short, I had liked over 300 things in the past two months, sometimes even commenting on it...except I haven't liked a single thing ever except maybe Salt City Brew Supply. What's that all about?

So I'm trying to figure out what's up with this, if my account got hacked maybe. But it was just a bunch of random likes for all sorts of completely random, unrelated, facebook junk. Like boobs and beer was one, and on that one I thought maybe they were on to me, but I think it was just a coincidence. But I searched on the web and it turns out this happens. Dead people liking stuff, even dead anarchists liking Mitt Romney and other such nonsense. Turns out a while back facebook whet to sponsored notifications or something and even if you had people liking and following your page they wouldn't get your notifications because they were buried under sponsored notifications. So I'm reading something from a guy who paid to sponsor his page after having his visits or whatever take a nose dive. Next thing he knows he has thousands of likes and follows, but he looks at who they are and they're just a random mix of people who he doesn't think are interested in his english language magazine about sensitive skin, especially the ones from the Soviet bloc and the middle east. So this isn't just poor business practice here. This is a scam and it's based on fraud. What's up with that? This isn't even new.

Why is this being allowed to go on?

On a serious note, change your password and go into your "likes" and delete the questionable ones.

I did change my password. I tried to unlike everything but holy crap, you have to click on a drop down box, click the unlike button without accidentally hitting one of the several other buttons and then click OK to confirm. No kidding there were over 300. I gave up after a while, wondering why I cared so much.

So no one else has had this happen? Do you think they picked my account because I hadn't been on it in over a year?

My Facebook account wasn't even set up by me. I'm pretty sure it was set up by a member (or former member) of the Jazzfanz community because I received an e-mail that my account for "Kobe Fan" was set up with my e-mail address. ********. I'm more of an Angus Fan. It's cheaper.

It's about time we made a thread for bitching about facebook.

Do we have one? I would have put this there.

But yeah, general bitching about facebook is encouraged here.

I'd trash it and start fresh. Go with Myck Kabongo of the Utah Jazz before UGLI beats you to it.

But someone hacked my facebook and liked a bunch of stuff? Who would benefit from that? Looks likes some of these articles suggest these phantom likes are generated by a virus.

likes are sorta like votes...some even count as votes...so whoever was liked would benefit...probably a virus though
