Tyrone Corbin is a disgrace to the Utah Jazz franchise and to the coaching profession in general. I have never seen a more inept, incompetent, stubborn, oblivious and completely useless coach in any professional sport. Just shameful. I mean words do not describe what an outrageously terrible coach this man is. His coaching is so bad it’s comical. He couldn’t do a worse job coaching if he tried. If our front office has complete faith and confidence in Tyrone Corbin, than this franchise is doomed.
Are we tanking? Is that what’s happening? Because that is the only explanation that makes sense for playing Randy Foye and Earl Watson more minutes than Derrick Favors, Enes Kanter, Alec Burks, Gordon Hayward, and even Marvin Williams.
If Tyrone Corbin was coaching the Dream Team, they would have lost every game. Michael Jordan would be getting DNP-CDs. Corbin isn’t fit to coach a Junior Jazz team. Tyrone Corbin isn’t even fit to be a used car salesman at one of Greg Miller’s parking lots. Tyrone Corbin is a monkey in a suit. The only thing he’s missing are clown shoes. What a joke. Corbin is to coaching what Kryponite is to Superman.
And don’t tell me that I’m not a real fan or that I’m impatient. Or that I’m blaming all the team’s problems on Corbin. I’ve written entire blog posts defending Ty Corbin and preaching patience. I’ve noted good decisions that he’s made and spoken optimistically that it seems like he’s improving and is actually learning how to do his job.
Our new additions were supposed to make us better. In fact, we’re worse off than we were at this time last season. The team is regressing on every level. There is no offensive system. There is no defensive system. Guys are just wandering around confused and pissed off. No one knows their role. Their roles are not earned; they are arbitrarily assigned on a whim by Tyrone Corbin.
Gordon Hayward and Marvin Williams are killing it, shooting lights out and having a tremendous impact on the game, and Tyrone Corbin pulls them. Randy Foye shooting 0-10? Better keep him in the game, he’s got to make one eventually! There is no rhyme or reason to anything that Corbin does. It’s all arbitrary and random.
It’s not like the man is not tyring. He is. He’s trying very, very hard. And that’s what makes this situation so pathetic. Corbin is just not capable of being a good coach. It’s like expected a parapalegic kid to run a marathon. You can strap Nikes on him and shove him across the starting line, but he’s not going anywhere. He can’t run.
You can give Corbin all the support he needs– tools, assistant coaches, a guaranteed contract, complete autonomy–but at the end of the day, he just can’t coach. It’s more important to Tyrone Corbin to give minutes to the guys that he likes than to win games. His coaching philosophy is “It doesn’t matter if we win as long as we try. We lost the game. Oh well, there’s another one tomorrow. Let’s not talk about what we did wrong, lets just move on.”
What are we, The Bad News Bears? What a poisonous, toxic locker room mentality to have from a head coach. “Losing is OK.” And we wonder why our team has no fire, determination, or toughnmess. We have a passive head coach who lacks fire, determination, and toughness. You don’t give guys the day off after you get blown out in a winnable game. You get their asses into the gym first thing in the morning and MAKE them regret losing that game.
You make it clear that you do not tolerate laziness and poor performance. If one of your starters’ lazy attitude is infecting the team, you sit his *** on the bench until he proves that he deserves to play.
Playing professional basketball is a privellege. These guys are lucky to have what they have and do what they do for a living. No more excuses. No more lip service. If your head coach can’t even inspire his players to put forth real effort on both ends of the floor, YOU FIRE YOUR HEAD COACH.
In 20+ years as a Jazz fan, I have never been more disgusted with this franchise than I am now. The fact that they signed Tyrone Corbin to an extension before he even coached an entire season is extremely concerning. It is a testament o this franchise’s desire to maintain the status quo. To tread water. Not moving forwards or backwards., Just standing pat. In a word: mediocrity.
“Growth-from-within” is a cute concept. Unfortunately, the only growth from within the Jazz organization these past 3 years has been the malignant tumor that is Tyrone Corbin.
Enough is enough. Fire Corbin.
