Looking at taking a little vacation in the area! Anybody been or lived there that has any advice on what to do?? Thanks!!

Went for a day trip once. Margaritaville has real good burgers. Beaches are pretty made of white carbonate stuff. Stop off at some keys along the way to swim! Theres a square where you can watch the sunset, its real nice.

You kidding?

Yeah, I lived in Islamorada for 2 years, 6 months on Cudjoe Key, and 6 months in Key West. My favorite place, period.

I take my wife and 5 still-at-home kids on a two month vacation every summer. We are going to spend June and July on Sugarloaf Key.

It is AWESOME.. but there is not a lot to do by many people's standards. The atmosphere is more caribbean than the actual caribbean.
I can tell you the restaurants to hit, awesome fishing, etc.. but the Keys are not for normal tourist type things.

Mallory Square.

I highly recommend experiencing a lower key just north of Key West. That way you get the real Keys experience yet close enough to get to Key West for variety.

recurring, apparently.

I have those. They're usually about being in a desert, searching for lost artifacts that I never actually seem to find. I have this dream probably three times a week.

As for the OP, don't forget to take a fly rod. Depending on the time of year, there are a host of world class fly fishing opportunities in that area, bonefish and Tarpon being the biggest draws. A six foot Tarpon on a 12 weight rod, in four feet of water... *drool* Why can't I have that reoccurring dream?

Can I ask what you do for a living?

Have been a real estate developer for 20 years. We buy the land, design the subdivisions, market and sell the lots, design the custom homes, and build them.

I also have a couple hedge funds and do some direct hard-money lending.

I appreciate the response. Thank you.

So, basically it is a place to sit your *** in the sand, enjoy a breeze through your hair, enjoy a cool drink and just enjoy life before it passes?

Um. Yes please.
