Former Jazzmen in the League

The identity of the Utah Jazz is the name on the front of the jersey. All franchises lose, trade and retire players. Did you think things were going to remain the same forever? I mean some of the crying about who isn't on the team is like crying about the weather. You can control what happens all you can do is deal with it. I am a fan of the UTAH JAZZ, players will come and go. I try to appreciate the old ones when they come back.

The only players that I still wished were still on the Jazz from that group are Matthews and DW. The rest were either overrated or too one-dimensional or overpaid. However, with DW I am less bothered with the decision to trade him because he probably would have left and we got a boatload of talent in return. With Matthews I am past the whining stage, and now I just pathetically sigh thinking about the what ifs.

Come on Jazz fans suck it up!! It is a new day.. It is a new dawn. LOL. I am excited about the potential of this team and I hope we can add a few more pieces next year to make a serious run at a championship.

If we could've kept Deron-Boozer-AK-Okur-Korver-Brewer together and functioning - both financially AND physically - that group would easily be a contender in the West. That team was much closer than people realize to contending for a championship, and unfortunately the inability to stay healthy prevented them from taking the next step.

I loved watching those teams play offense and execute down the stretch of games, but they couldn't keep everyone healthy and ultimately ran their course.
When you rebuild you're gauranteed to see a roster overturn. LHM was owner when Stockton and Malone left, and look at all the roster changes we saw from 2003-06.

Stability is the hallmark of this franchise but you need a foundation before you can look for consistency. KOC understands what made the Jazz great - but you need the right players and the right coaches in place before you know who to build around and allow to grow and develop.

(Oh and please leave Arroyo and Mikki Moore - who I was adamant about resigning in 2004, but it's currently 2011 - out of the conversation.)
 
As I wrote in another thread, when it came to roster moves, KOC was the gas but Sloan was the brake. It's evident there is no brake right because of the roster that beat Denver and lost to the Lakers in the 2009-10 season, only Millsap and Miles remain. Just two. That's remarkable, but not necessarily a bad thing because that team had gone as far as it could go and the money that many of them were looking for was not going to be paid by the Jazz. I hope that as the gas, KOC lets up on the accelerator at times and lets this team find their identity. After he ****cans Raja.
 
Come on guys, give write a break. I mean, John and Karl were here for like what, 60 years? I think it's completely reasonable to expect every Jazz team to be like that. And as long as we're spending monopoly money, let's add in Dantley as well. Now THAT's a team I can really get behind.
 
I don't really mean to rag on the original post, but it should have at least included the salaries of those former Jazz players. That's the major reason they're no longer on the Jazz.

And everyone's forgetting Mo Williams, as well.

And (to add another random comment): I generally agree with Beantown's analysis, except I think Kosta may be a surprise. If he were on our team, we'd be saying that he's given us at least as much reason for hope as Hayward has (based on his end of last season, summer, and preseason performances). I'll be interested to see if he can keep the positive momentum going.

Jerry and LHM are gone and in the last two years we have lost: DWill, Boozer, Brewer, Korver, AK, Mathews, and Okur -- Two years ago they were our top seven out of eight players, Millsap the only one left, and CJ would be nine. Talk about dismantling a team. Guess people who don't acknowledge we're rebuilding are as much in the dark as those who call our economic situation a recession rather than a depression. Yes, the Jazz are rebuilding. AK never improved beyond waht he was before the MAX deal. Boozer turned out to be one-dimensional. Brewer was exposed in the playoffs - you can't have a SG who can't shoot. And DWill turned on his teammates and coaches. I'm not sure any of those players fit the Jazz "identity" that was established by Malone, Stockton, Hornacek and Sloan.

Millsap does. Apparently, Favors too. It looks like his offseason was Malone-esque. I'd like to think the Jazz are REESTABLISHING an identity that was lost. Let's see if we can have a tough, nasty team. I want other teams to hate playing the Jazz, knwoing they're going to get knocked around physically by Utah, just like teams did in the good old days.
 
I can't wait until Tues. Then we talk about real NBA ball instead of pissing and whining about what could have been. We were not going anywhere with all the players we used to have! So get over it. We have a great young core that we can enjoy for the next several years. Go ahead and root for our old guys on their new teams. Nothing wrong with that.
