What's new

Gobert has blown away my expectations of him ...already

We were just hoping he could catch the damn ball more consistently and better his free throw percentage so he might play more 4th quarter minutes.

But here we are ,Rudy is leading the NBA in shooting percentage and protecting the rim !! His team mates are looking for him and defenses can't cheat away from him,he has to be accounted for.
I know Hayward is having a breakout All Star type year and that GHill has given the Jazz a more quiet confidence in themselves in close tight games but through it all the anchor of the team IMHO has been Rudy Gobert.
Now the last two games he's put up 20 point games and he's capable every game of having games like this.
If and when the Jazz get healthy ,Rudy Gobert is making himself a important part of the offense and his improved free throw shooting will have him closing out games.

Gobert is certainly no longer a liability. He finishes much better and hold son to the ball much better. Also love the effort on D and his FTs.

But I want to see more consistent scoring before I sing his praises as a true offensive threat. He can do it but lets see him make this more consistent.

I just pray he hits FT's like this when it matters in the 4th quarter and closing minutes of playoff games.

Not sure what you mean by more consistent scoring. He leads the league in FG%. He doesn't really create for himself, so except for putbacks his scoring depends on his teammates looking for him on offense. If he gets consistent opportunities he will score.

Rudy has improved immensely, which is a bit surprising after watching tlhis same old 2x4 hands in preseason and a dubious looking purslane from the charity stripe.

Several factors have contributed to his great play as of late. A few of which are new:

1. George Hill. He has been a leader for this team and said early on that he wants Rudy to be a factor in the offense. Hill's passing drills in practice prove that it wasn't just talk.

2. Boris Diaw. He's a great mentor for Rudy and his passing is sublime.

3. The Contract. See #4

4. Rudy Gobert. The guy simply has always been an intimidating beast. But it was he $100 million gave him legitimacy on this club and in the league that merely hard work and a high motor can not. Put then together and combine that with his pride and we see the results.

And then there's his defense...

I'd argue everyone above 65% is unhackable unless he misses most of the regularly created free throws early on and it looks like an off night for him.

He's going to keep getting better and he's already one of the best bigs in the league.

Rudy's been blowing away expectations for years now.

He's ascended to a true alpha asset, his trade value is astronomical.

The day Rudy can put together even a limited post-up game on the block (one good move, one good counter-move) it's largely game over. It'll really provide a great spot for him to put his good passing skills to use, and it's a good method of squashing mistmatches when teams try to play us small.

He's finishing in the P&R seems to have strongly improved-- and to me, this is the next step.

Can he do it? I think he can.

No one should be surprised if they have been paying attention. Rudy has the tenacity and work ethic that you know he will do everything he can to be as good as possible. Sky is the limit.

That outside jumper he hit a few games ago doe.

I still remember going to a jazz scrimmage the summer when we drafted Gobert and being blown away by his effort and intensity. He was everywhere on the defensive end. Covering up every mistake by his teammates.

I think he was pissing off most of his teammates too and scaring some of them with his intensity during a simple scrimmage.

Define true offensive threat.

Does Gobert have a consistent jump shot or post move? No.

Does Gobert demand attention when he cuts to the basket, or flashes off a screen? Yes. That gives either him, or the ball handler an open shot. This has been happening all year. I would call that a true offensive threat.

I was there and remember him from that too. I was amazed with his speed/quickness and hustle. Most guys his size take about 3 seconds to decide to try to go set a screen up top, and then another 5 seconds to lumber their way into position. Not Rudy.

Quin has finally tailored the offense around Gobert (and Diaw). It has been beautiful to watch.

Hello 1992 and no thanks. I'd rather watch the show the Clippers have been putting on for years than the show Al Jefferson put on. Rudy is DeAndre on steroids, caffeine, PCP, Testosterone, ambition, and HOF potential. He doesn't need the ball in his hands to dominate.

You know every team that plays the Jazz goes away wanting him badly.

I get what your saying. He does have impact and requires a defender, if he is in the paint. Another overlooked offensive benefit of Gobert is his "screen assists". He had 11 of them in 1 game just a couple games ago. So yes he does change the dynamic, clearly.

For me, I guess, he needs to be able to create his own shot to some degree. That hook, an 8 foot J, post moves...something. This team has been great for him. But how much is the team and how much Gobert? if he does that he could average 16+ppg

For the record I think he will get some moves and the hook down. He is just that type of player, the passion and drive are there.
