Grantland ranks offseason moves

@ZachLowe_NBA: @Misterr_E What possible evidence do you have that Trey Burke is a ROY candidate?

Silly Zachary.

He doubts the power of prayer. How foolish.

He does not know the magic that happened several fortnights ago.

Awesome!!!

Weak.

Another article thinking we got significantly weaker by letting Paul/Al walk. Also doesn't recognize that we played pretty well during the lockout season. Getting the 8th seed with Paul/Al and a ton of young guys with potential was a nice accomplishment. We were also almost dead last in 3P categories so the following offseason we land (3) guys who all should've helped those percentage numbers (and they did), couple that with expecting improvement from our young core 4 we could've seemingly made a run for a 5-6 playoff seed. Not crazy logic to keep Al/Paul.

Enter Ty logic and any possible playoff success ended.

With our moves this offseason I am convinced we would've traded Al or Paul if we got some picks in a deal, but if no one was offering any to us then I don't blame them for keeping them and making a push for the extra cash of a few playoff games.

I don't see a first option guy on this team.. we better have good ball movement, crisp passing, covet the ball, and hit some shots if we want to win more than a handful of games.

This. We will lose a lot of games in the last 5 minutes because we won't be able to score. There will be a lot of games where the last five minutes are UGLI basketball where we are out scored 5-1 and lose.

Solid posts by dipship and green. There really wasn't that much difference between the 14th and 18th spots. Had Olynyk not been taken by Boston, Jazz may have gone with Schroder or Larkin (had they not been able to trade up). They would have been available at either draft position. So pushing for the playoffs made sense. I'm sure Utah entertained trade offers for both but were likely offered contracts that had 2-3 years remaining. Jazz waited and were able to essentially turn Al and Paul (i.e. cap space) into 2 firsts and 2 seconds.

As for green's post...I can only hope we lose a lot of games at the end, especially on the road. It will be frustrating, but will be a good learning experience AND help our draft position. What I think more likely, however, is that the Jazz, mainly due to their bench, won't be that close by the middle to end of the 4th.
