I know there is a World Cup thread already, but if a separate thread claiming Exum is a bust because of FIBA play exists, then this thread of celebration for Neto and Exum is deserved.

Raul Neto

Today vs Egypt he went

7/7 for 100% FG!
10 AST!
3 TO
1 REB
missed one FT
1 STL
14 PTS
+\- +35

his team crushed Egypt 128-65 on some 2K easy mode ****.

Dante Exum

Got to play 31 mins as the Boomers rested their starters today. In that time, he put up:

12 pts
3/6 FG
1/2 from 3
5/5 FT
6 AST
3 REB
4 TO
+\- -9

His team lost 83-91, which is to be expected since they decided to rest their starters. His -9 is also to be explained via the loss. The 6 AST # could've been a few more had he been playing with better teammates as well. The 4 TO speak to his loose handle that we all know about. The FT's and FG% are encouraging.

Patience.

Should have brought over Neto Let Burke, Exum and Neto fight it out for 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Exum's +/- in this game is to be explained by Australia throwing the game in the last 20 minutes, in which Exum played about 16. They needed to lose so they'd have the best chance of avoiding the USA until the semis. They were literally not getting back in defense and leaving open lanes for opponents to dunk. It was the most horrible defense I've seen at the entire WC. I think it was intentionally bad. I can't imagine anyone playing this bad of a defense in the span of 2 quarters. It was good to see Exum start off aggressive and go to the line 3 times(5FTs altogether) in the first quarter. He struggled a bit with his passing in the first half but that changed in the second when he amassed 6 assists. Was pretty nice to see him go at it when he gets the green light and he knows there won't be Baynes or Dellavedova or Ingles on the floor to take shots and create for him and for the rest of the team. He can definitely do it, now he should work on doing it even when there are other great players on the floor. I wish he'd be the "alpha dog" type, who takes the team on his shoulders, but I realize that he's one of the yongest players at the WC and that might not be as easy... Still he showed some sparks and some nice things in that game.

Neto was great in garbage minutes(almost all the game was garbage minutes since Brazil was leading by 30-40 by the halftime), but the competition was so weak that I'd rather not draw too many conclusions from this game specifically. What I love most about him is his defensive effort! Absolutely love it! He plays hard and pesters the opponents PG on the ball... Really impressed with this aspect of his game. I think it is markedly improved compared to last years summer league, when I last saw him. He has a great potential to be a solid backup in a good NBA team. I can totally see him taking Burke's spot once the time comes for his contract to be renewed and he asks for more than we are willing to pay for a backup PG.

Should have brought over Neto Let Burke, Exum and Neto fight it out for 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

I finally watched the game. Neto is nowhere near NBA ready. His stat line was good but they were empty stats. He struggled in the pnr against a very bad Egyptian team. It was something like 36-8 when he came in against that bench, and still couldn't do anything. Most his assists came from his position in the offense than creating or good floor vision -- swing passes and the like.

There would be no fight for playing time involving Neto unless they brought JLIII back.

Don't shoot the messenger.
