Horny in the running for Orlando job

Steve Luhm: Jazz assistant Jeff Hornack has been told he will not be the new head coach at Orlando. More to come

No such luck Horny, but getting that interview gets his name out there...

Brian Shaw and Michael Malone out of the running, and seeing Horny at the top of the list last night, I started to wonder if maybe he did have a shot. Maybe Jacques Vaughn? Probably they're so screwed up over Howard, they don't know what to do.

Horny doesn't have the nasty to be a head coach IMO. He's a great assistant coach with his knowledge and experience, but I don't think he has it to put a star on the bench because he doesn't play defense. He's too nice.

Horny would be walking into a hornet's nest (oh wait, that's New Orleans) with the Howard spectacle. I know their new GM is trying to make a name for himself as a tough negotiator, but he needed to get that deal with Brooklyn done. Now he's limited to Houston, perhaps the Lakers (and getting fewer assets) or retaining Dwight for the season. I guess a deal could still be had with the Nets, but now Orlando would have to take on a MAX deal for Lopez.

I had to rub my eyes in disbelief when I read that it was another former Jazzman, Vaughn, who was in the lead for the headcoaching job, last heard. Really? I didn't even realize that he was a coaching candidate. I would have thought he was still out there being the 12th man for some team. Apprenticing a couple of years with Popovich does you wonders I believe. Anyways it would be borderline bizarre to see such a young coach(37 years) and that too a former Jazzman getting this job just out of the blue amidst other high profile candidates(and maybe including Vaughn's own former coach Sloan sometime in the past?). Good luck to him though.

I think it's interesting that guys like Brian Shaw and Michael Malone are always mentioned as top candidates for any new coaching job, and yet, they always either withdraw or just don't get chosen. I wonder if they'll ever be as good of head coaches as their hype indicates.
