What's new

Hugo Chavez dies.

My main issue with Chavez is that I always had the feeling that he wouldn't step down from power. Going along with that, I question whether he truly cared about the poor people of Venezuela or if he just saw socialism as the best way to keep himself in power.

Hopefully the guy that just parley lost to him in the last e toons will take over the country sometime!!

I think it's funny that some believe the American government infected Chavez with cancer.

Haha how stupid are they?

Why are people happy about this? As a country have we really become so desensitized and obsessed with death that we will cheer on the death and sadness of another one and their family?

It's not like Hugo's government hasn't prepared for this day. Its not like he doesnt have powerful supporters. so those expecting some radical change might be greatly disappointed. Hell if anything things might get worse. Look at how well that Arab spring worked out. Lol

Ps those hating on him probably have never studied Latin America history. They just assume that we are talking about another Stalin like character. It's amazing what could be learned if Americans just opened up a damn textbook and read about history. It wasn't like Venezuela was some tropical paradise without corruption and with a thriving economy until mean ol Hugo took over.
Once again, folks expecting Venezuela to surge like brazil has done the last decade will probably end up very disappointed.

I don't see any post that can be interpreted as being happy, so I'll assume you're talking about mine. Let me clarify. I'm not happy that he died. That would imply that I gave a ****, which would be inaccurate. It's nice that you pretend to care though. It's the decent thing to feign.

I'm sorry that you took my post personally. No need to get your panties in a knot. I was merely speaking generally. If you were to read the op's response, comments on Facebook, and responses through various other media, you'd understand that the general American attitude is happy over this. In fact, one mutual friend just commented on Facebook saying, "finally Venezuela is free!"

Lol free???

So again, sorry you took it so personally. I wasnt responding to you. Have a good day.

Hugo Chavez was incredibly charismatic and beloved by his supporters. There's no way his appointed successor has that level of charisma and built-up goodwill. Sure, I wouldn't expect any sort of overnight crazy changes, but Chavez really WAS his political party. 14 years is a long time.

Some Americans believe that Bush knew about maybe even helped to plan 9/11.

Some Americans believe that Obama was born in Kenya and that he hates America and wants to avenge his grandfather (or something stupid like that. Whatever that movie that a lot of conservatives watched).

Some Americans believe that we never actually reached the moon.

Many Americans still reject Evolution.

A lot of Americans thought that Mitt Romney was going to win.

There are a lot of dumbasses out there.
