He is my favorite 'new school' emcee. Coincidentally he's from Chicago, but as a Hip-Hop head most of my life my favorites are the crafty wordsmiths so that's why I dig his music. His most recent mixtape Coloring Outside the Lines can be found on his website www.chicagolives.net

Any other Hip-Hop fans got new-ish artists to recommend? Preferably one's that haven't hit the mainstream because I've heard most of it, and needless to say it is garbage.

Thanks for any participation in this thread.

I'm enjoying Hopsin for his outlandish lyrical creativity, which is what sets one rapper apart from another for me. Game and Lil Wayne have great vocal delivery but their lyrics check the intelligence at the door.

Hopsin's stuff doesn't quite have that mainstream hook but his lyrics remind me of a young, cerebral Eminem.

Found out about Hopsin when someone sent me his Tyler the Creator diss song and was very impressed. I bought a couple of his albums and still listen to him every so often. He should definitely get a lot more run than he does.

The only thing that throws me off is that his delivery/tone is so similar to Em. Almost identical. I never was a big Eminem fan. I think I respect him, but always thought he was wildly overrated and more of a gimmick because he was white and angry.

The essence of Hip-Hop, to me, is heart and authenticity. Em had neither of those. Very transparent in my humble opinion. Hopsin is the truth though.
