What's new

I'm sure this is a dumb question re: BYU and Utah.

It's better to lose on the road to an RPI top 100 then winning at home against an RPI sub 300. Precedent is set that a 20-12 team with better SOS is getting in the NCAA over 24-8 team with a terrible SOS. Committee is looking at road games a lot more and ignoring home wins.

I understand, but that's not where Utah's program is at right now. We are just trying to gain traction in out of conference as we head into a tough Pac 12 schedule, not impress the committee. In 2 years we will be back to worrying about RPI as we compete for an at large bid.

This is true.

However, EVERY team schedules a mix of cupcakes, mids, and quality.

What incentive does a rival have to schedule a flaundering team as a mid when it could be another team that doesn't compete for fans/recruits or w/e?

Also, this.

Ease of travel. Cheaper. Not sure Utah is going after the same recruits USU and Weber have. Haven't seen a recruit get offers from both schools. Could be wrong, but I haven't seen it.

What is flaundering?

Also, the last couple years the Utes were in the MWC, the MWC was better than the PAC-10 and Utah didn't have any trouble playing instate on the road.

BYU fan doing any schedule talk is just silly. Absolutely silly. Even when Utah goes out and schedules nothing but non-conference cupcakes, their schedule is better than BYU's.

BYU, no one cares. Go away.

Lol
I love it when green comes around... he is my favorite ute fan
Nobody makes ute fans look worse

He's not a BYU fan. Weber State. But I think he pretty much cleaned up this topic well. It's really stupid for you guys to theoretically take a step up in conference, though with the way the MWC is in basketball right now that's totally debateable anyway, and then ruin any advantage that the conference schedule gives you in RPI by playing bar none the weakest ooc anybody's ever seen. It's a good way to protect a coaches job for a few years, it's not a good way to build a program. You get better by taking lumps against better teams, not by hiding and building up a false belief that you're actually good by winning against crap. Utah's Coach K is a string puller.

Completely wrong. 100% wrong. In order to compete, you need recruits.

Going out last year and finishing the season on that winning streak was huge for Utah. They have gotten some amazing recruits since then. Going out this year and getting 18-20 wins and a NIT bid would be amazing as well. If Coach K can keep getting top 25 classes, then in two years Utah can go out and get a better OOC schedule and shoot for the tourney. Going out this year and scheduling 5 losses to help with their RPI is stupid if you are only going to get 14 wins. Better to get 23 wins against GARBAGE teams, be a bubble team and miss the tourney, go on a run in the NIT.

You keep using that term. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Not a half bad dunk contest for BYU last night, especially considering BYU oftentimes(including last year) wouldn't even be able to hold a dunk contest due to lack of explosive jumping ability on their roster year in year out:

Kinda ghey vid but I predict BYU beats the Utes this year by 9.
Utes gon get better though.

Last year BYU won by 3, were supposed to be a lot better and the game was in Provo. 9 seems a little big of a win. Almost as bad as Vegas giving Stanford 7.5
