Yeah, I brought this up earlier in the game thread. It's an interesting stat to look at through the season.

How many good shots did we miss during that span? The most frustrating thing about the game last night was all the WIDE open shots we missed that we had been hitting all preseason long.
 
Hit the gym and shoot shoot shoot. Keep shooting ya scallywags.

The roster shoots fine actually. But they are too young to step in to the first game and shoot above their average guaranteed.

This is kind of like blaming Kanter for losing as a starter last season. You can't isolate just the one factor. Certainly Favors was the best offensive player of the game last night. Replace him with Gobert and yes, the %'s will go down. But also consider the type of team the Jazz become when Gobert is on the floor: it's a "3 and D" approach and the Jazz shooters were <17% on their 3's. The real question is whether or not the Jazz can win with players like Burke and Hayward continuing to shoot bricks.

What I saw when Gobert first entered the game, was Dwight getting frustrated, Rudy forced a travel; he altered another shot. But the Jazz missed shot after shot allowing Houston to take an 8-pt halftime lead.

One game is meaningless.
 
I guess the next question to ask is: What was Houston's shooting percentage with and without Gobert on the floor?

Dwight Howard was pretty much kept in check when Gobert was on the court but when Kanter was defending him, it was embarassing.

I'm liking Gobert & Favors front court the best at the moment. Favors shots were dropping early in the game, let him develop that. Kanter is guarding nobody and I think is a much better scorer against the other team's 2nd unit bigs.

Well how many shots did Rudy take? Perhaps if they got the ball into him more and stopped shooting 3pts 3-16 that disparity wouldn't be so great. I thought they were chucking the ball more when Rudy was in. It is only one game so I will keep my eye on it. Though it was an interesting question.
 
My least favorite player is Trey Burke ...but just because he shot the most again and shot poorly again doesn't mean I'm yelling for a trade and start Exum.I waited more than a year to see the (Favors,Kanter,Hayward,Burks ,Burke) play and the stats bear out that they put points up at a high rate and with high efficiency.

What can be done better,1st thing that went wrong was Favors and fouls...if he's the defensive anchor ,stay the hell out of foul trouble at the start of the game.
Burke shooting the most shots is a loss ,playing 38 minutes and only 4 assists
Kanter has been asked to change his game the most and he's lost nearly 25 lbs doing that,he'll be fine as he grows into his new role,one game doesn't make him a loser
We know Burks can score ,but when the defenses move to double can he create for his team mates and not be singularly focused on getting his own
Hayward did everything else last nite ,he could have gotten 10 assists himself,he did the rebounding he's stronger ,,you can see he'll score just fine this year
2nd unit might play good defense,but struggle to score points ...just got to stick to getting the young 2nd unit minutes to get their identity and confidence
Coach Snyder ,1st unit will be fine offensively,2nd unit needs to gain their identity...and lets not go through 38 minutes of only 4 assists and poor shooting and most shots by the Jazz PG
 
I mean I understand David Locke has to tweet SOMETHING out, but surely he's heard of sample size before. At this point, this is finding stats to fit a storyline not the other way around.

Let's look at it after 10 games.
 
Everybody bitches about Corbin for not playing young guys. Our new coach gives Rudy mins and y'all start whining about it.
