#10 is a joke. Korver will not be cheaper he is going to get MLE money most likely.
#9 I'm not sure Fess is going to be all that cheap. Probably 1.5-3M a year.
Resigning Mathews is far from a forgone conclusion. I believe he is restricted but do they really want to give him MLE money that will cost twice that? I hope he comes in much cheaper than that but it's not guaranteed by any means.
1. I agree with you re: Korver. He's probably NOT coming back. Matthews and CJ have taken over his role as late-game 3-pt shooters. Jazz would be better of saving $4-$5M and signing a rookie to develop - preferably an upgrade at PG. Or take the MLE and sign a big SF. CJ can back up Matthews at PG. Yes, I know the position is interchangeable in the Jazz offense. But it certainly isn't on defense. Jazz need size at the 3 (assuming - and hoping - AK will be gone at the deadline or after this season).
2. Even at $3M, that's CHEAP for Fes. Have you seen what a lot of BACKUP centers around the league make? And with Okur hurting, Fes WILL be back.
3. Same with Matthews. If he received an offer for the MLE, I'd match it in a heartbeat. Wesley is a STARTING SG and a pretty decent one at that. He has a TON of upside. Already a decent shooter, and played pretty good defense as a ROOKIE. He's only going to get better. I'd try to sign him for the type of contract CJ received.
4. Who gives a rat's $#^ about Gaines and Jeffers? They're apparently nice guys. But Gaines can't shoot. OK, he made one BIG 3, but ended up 46%/27% and 50% from the line. Jeffers is a 6'5" forward. If you need to fill out your roster to 13, bring them back. If the 2nd-round pick or an undrafted player looks better, then sayonara.
What the Jazz need to do is upgrade their "core." By that, I mean the top-8 players. You have your starting 5, then a couple of bigs and a combo guard. Or perhaps nine: a backup center, combo forward and a couple of guards. The remaining players are fillers.
IMO, Deron, Matthews, Millsap and CJ can all be core players. Deron, of course is a superstar. The other three are 2nd-tier starters or great backups. And all give good production for what they're paid. AK? Not enough bang for the buck. Boozer? $15M/per will be too much for a one-dimensional player. Okur? Overpaid (but almost all centers are). Korver? Not enough game to justify $5M.
What I'm hoping to see happen is that the Jazz get a starter with the #9 pick, then pick up 2 more core players with AK's $17M (hopefully a starter and a decent backup). Of course, if the Jazz could also trade for a pick in the 20's or get a decent player via a sign-and-trade for Boozer, that would really help.
Utah has some definite rebuilding to do. But, it can be accomplished while also remaining competitive. I hope KOC is burning up the phones trying to get some deals done.
