jazz need to be 4th or 5th to avoid lakers

The fact that you're arguing this just shows how unbelievable desperate you are. Yes, an upset happens every once in a while. a 4 seed vs a 5 seed. Got that. That matchup is a crapshoot.

But the point of this pathetic thread is to avoid the Lakers so we can keep advancing to the championship. Which is pathetic, I'll explain to you in elementary terms:

A. We should want to play the toughest teams. I remember in 96-98, I wanted the Lakers, Rockets, Sonics, Pacers, and Bulls. Jazz fans were confident that we could beat them. Especially in the 2nd finals. We wanted revenge. We didn't jackpot around with... "well maybe the lakers can tank or we can go 82-0 so we can avoid playing the lakers." Bullship. Kick their asses. I sure as hell don't want to avoid the Lakers. I want to spank Kobe. I want to beat LA. I hate LA. I want to shove the championship trophy up Phil's arrogant youknowwhat. I want to shut Jack up. Tear down staples. Destroy their dynasty.

But only if we have a chance. We don't. Not as our roster and coach is presently constituted.

Championship teams don't look for the easy way out like this pathetic thread is suggesting.

B. This team sucks. They'll be lucky to get a 6 seed.

C. I think most Jazz fans would be satisfied if they saw management making an effort to improve and win the championship. Instead, it's the status quo. As long as we're mediocre and people are buying tickets, it's all good baby.

D. Jazz fans like max-a-million seem to feel slighted if fellow fans destroy them in arguments over this topic. We've been a playoff team for 30 years now. Bring me a championship or lets tank. Roll the dice. Trading away Farve was a risk. But it paid off. They could have kept him. They would have made the playoffs the past few years too probably. Yet they wouldn't have won the big one. Their defense needed a game changer (like Clay Matthews). Trading a hall of famer for a draft pick was risky. Trading yoru franchise QB for an unproven was crazy. Yet it worked.

Likewise, trading AK or Booz a few years back would have been considered nuts. Today, what move is waiting that could easily pay dividends in 1-2 more years? Millsap? CJ? Heck, even Deron?

Screw the avoiding the Lakers crap. Lets get after them.
Screw the... Well maybe upsets can happen... Screw that. Lets draft sign, and hire the coach that will get us the #1 seed.
Screw the... Well, maybe we can make the playoffs and anything can happen nonsense.

Lets get into the playoffs with the best roster, best coach, and best team with the only goal being to win the big one.

Clearly either you're not going to even attempt to realize why I am mocking you so or just plain lack in reading comprehension, so I will just spell it out so you don't need to spend 20 minutes typing up a pointless response. I never said the Jazz were contenders. In fact I wasn't talking about the Jazz in any respect whatsoever. In my entire discussion about seeds and championships, I referred to this Jazz team exactly zero times. Do I think the Jazz are a contender? Hell no. I would have clarified this to you earlier except you were just such an ******* quoting that first post of mine I thought it'd be funny to see how far you would take it. Did you have a bad day at the construction site today or something?

Quite the bang up logic there bud, I'd reply but I have a feeling you're just goading me on.

No, really trying to make a point. Another one is that "the best" can be singular or plural, since the playoffs are more than one matchup, I think plural is more applicable. So maybe I wasn't clear enough.

Although I side more with what The Thriller is arguing, I also think you're being more reasonable.

Without further adieu, continue tearing each other new buttholes.

No I mean, I guess there's just been a vitriolic tone in this whole thing. So I'll take all that back. Never meant for it to get like that. We just had homeboy come in feeling the need to go bazooka on someone's post without understanding the context, and that happened to be me this time.

I think the main source of confusion has been from the idea that I'm somehow referring to the Jazz's chances this year, which I'm not really directly doing. All I was trying to say is that if there was a match up problem that we had (in a better year), I would personally not feel disappointed or ashamed if we managed to avoid that team on the route to a miraculous title run. Because I think in the end the championship would just make us forget everything else.

Green Bay this year didn't have to play the Patriots, yes I know the Patriots were beat by the Jets who were then beat by the Steelers, but does this mean Green Bay would have beaten New England? One could argue they might have been lucky to avoid that match up. I realize that's not exactly the best example. In 2007, San Antonio didn't have to play Dallas on its way to the NBA Finals because Dallas got stuck with a clear match up problem (GS had dominated them that year and there was much hype about how bad of a match up it was going in to the playoffs) in an earlier round, and instead got the luxury of playing us, a much more favorable match up for them. Do you think anyone remembers that except for the die-hards? Does it take away the title? Not in the least. So much in Sports is the match-up, in fact it is a topic of discussion in every sport. To me, its all about getting yourself the most favorable road to the Finals, not about proving yourself through an epic gauntlet of teams on route.
