NOt Andrew Bynum blowing guys up when they are losing. But, we need our bigs to challenge players at the rim. There was way too many untouched layups and dunks. We were losing and sometimes to kill momentum you have to foul or play some tight in your face D. Jazz have been missing that toughness for along time the last tough guy we had was Hoffa. Lets bring the Hoffa spirit back. Like Harpring said good defense means you play a little dirty.

Couldnt agree more. Good hard fouls that send a message that the lane isnt open for business.
Way too many easy baskets given up in the first two games.

A strategic, hard foul is a good move. Fouling just because you got beat is the worst thing you can do.

Only if you let them make the shot. I was always annoyed during the boozer era that he would foul after he got beat and let them score. If you get beat grab them or hit both of their arms so they can't hit their shot this should be fine.

What, so they can go to the line and convert points at a higher rate, drawing a team foul, and a personal foul on top of all of that?

You can foul to send a message, but that should be something done sparsely. If you're beat, don't be dumb unless it's a guy that can't hit his FTs. And even still, you're putting your team closer to the penalty, and putting your ability to stay on the floor (and defend) in jeopardy.

Again, fouling another player is not something that has to be discarded altogether, but using it as a primary defensive philosophy leads to disaster.

It's a very mixed message the players get when they are told to foul but then yanked out of the game when they do.

I think we need to work on executing our defense and getting a defensive presence.... Unfortunately, our primary big man, Jefferson, is on par with Carlos Boozer with defense. Tyson Chandler he is not.

I honestly think our best bet may be to trade Al Jefferson to someone like the awful Wiz who have an awful frontcourt for a unprotected 1st. There's no way they'd do it for a 2012 1st rounder but they may for a 2013 and that draft should also have a lot of talent especially since I think a handful of guys who are currently projected to go top 15-20 are going to stay in school. This will open up time for Kanter and Favors even more. We could sign or get back in the trade a ******* who doesn't have a problem playing cleanup time. I don't even know if salaries would match up with anyone but you get the point. Trade his *** for expiring(s) and an unprotected 1st in 2013.

I was dreaming up an AJ,CJ, and Raja for Nick Young or JaVale McGee (whichever would have to extend) and Rashard until I remembered reading something about not being able to amnesty a traded player.

They might do it. He could play along side McGee. He would be a huge upgrade to Blatche.
