Jazz Team Payroll

According to this USA Today article, the Jazz had the lowest payroll of all teams in the league in 2016-17. Makes the Caak taste sweet. https://hoopshype.com/salaries/#hh-tab-team-payroll

Sure did. We seemingly left cap space open to extend Hill and or/Favors and that didn't work out. We were in a good position to take back a Serge Ibaka or PJ Tucker to fill the space but I guess it was determined that wouldn't get us over the hump and 1st rounders would be to big of an asset to give up for that kind of rental.

If only we had a competent FO, we probably could have made the playoffs and even maybe a first round win. Stupid Jazz never do nothin.

I hope Jazz fans are #takingnote of just how cheap the Jazz's front office has been the past 7 years. Sure they've sold us on a rebuild, but 7 years is too long! I hope they reward our patience next year. 7 years will be forgotten if they have a successful summer. I dont need them to spend all their money, I just dont want to see Ingles walk without replacing him with someone exciting (kinda like what happened with Wesley Matthews, Paul Millsap, and DeMarre Carroll.)

Let's just be clear here. Injuries have crippled this team the last two years, but had Utah been healthy this year, they have a legit case for being 2nd best team in the west and 3rd best in the league. Yet some people are going to cry about how much money they've spent.

You see, there's this thing called the salary cap that MANDATES smart money management. Fans who don't understand that should go join up with the Brooklyn nets fan base. Those dudes really know how to throw their money around, and in the process **** their team over for years. But hey, they be spending tons of cash, so you should be happier there.

Don't worry, Utah is on track to be paying the LT by next year. Then the complainers will disappear for a while until the next rebuild, where it will be the same thing all over again.

PS- Still LMAO at all the fans pointing to Portland last year as an example of how the Jazz should operate. Bwaaahaaahhaaa

Keep in mind next year Rudy's deal kicks in and with all the other players we need to account for, we will most likely be well into the luxury tax next year.
Like Cappy mentioned, it's not about just throwing money away, it's about smart money to get what you actually need.

Yes there were many playoff teams heavy into the luxury tax this year, but avoiding it didn't seem to kill Houston or Boston either who both won the first game of their 2nd round series.

I'm glad the FO are for the most part sensible with their payroll. Considering the number of teams that had a higher payroll that didn't make it to the playoffs, this should be seen as a major achievement.

To me, this assumes the Jazz knew at the trade deadline that they wouldn't be able to extend Hill. That's faulty thinking IMO. As long as there was a chance to get an extension done, keeping that option available was the right decision, regardless of how things worked out.

Fairly sure they did know... Had a last second meeting again just to see what Hill's thoughts were imo. they were at least fairly certain it wasn't happening.

I won't be upset with our lack of spending if we keep the team together. If the team refuses to go into the tax to keep Hayward, Hill, and Ingles I will be. We have operated at or below the floor for several years with the promise of spending. I don't expect us to be the Cavs, but i don't think they should refuse the tax.

If we can get Hill at 25 or less per year and Ingles at 14 or less per year and offload Burks we will come in at 125-130 in payroll with a $5-10M luxury tax bill. All the funds we've banked should cover it... the acid test is this summer... are we cheap or are we patient and willing to spend when the opportunity is right?

In my opinion the rebuild didn't start until we fired Ty Corbin which was 3 years ago. The Jazz were sinking in quicksand with that guy and didn't show any promise until Snyder took over.
