Jazz tried to trade Harris?

I read this today on a chat on Hoopsworld.com, here is what was said:

Any rumors for what Utah will do? They have a stop-gap PG in Harris, good, but not the answer. They have a glut of PF/C’s, and GS’s lotto pick next year. Seems most, and I agree, say Utah should look to trade Millsap, since teams love him and they have a great line left with Al, Favors and Kanter. What do you think they will, and should do?

Steve Kyler

We need a labor deal first. No one knows what the new world in the NBA will look like so trying to plan around the unknown is not smart.I can say the jazz tried to re-trade Devin around the draft, so moving him seems like a strong possibility. As for what I think the Jazz should do… don’t be impatient. They have a lot of young guys that have not proven themselves and the last thing the Jazz need to do is liquidate guys that can play simply because they have guys they believe can play. Give the young guys some time to prove themselves then make your moves.

Wow, that is very interesting to me. I like Harris. I have been a closet Harris fan for a couple of years but I thought that the Jazz would keep him around to try and bring in a new PG and now I wonder what is really going on.

Yeh I heard about that, I think the jazz were just trying to continue to get young, would have they been targeting Brandon Knight who to me is a younger version of Devin Harris.

Actually, they've tried to trade him twice if you believe the reports...once as noted right after the Deron deal. I believe KOC said they "ran out of time" when he talked about further deadline deals. I presume he was probably talking about re-tradinf Harris. The other rumor is that both Millsap and Harris were shopped at draft time.

Has anyone heard anything as to which teams were being talked to?

I think Harris was available because there was interest. I don't think they "tried" to trade him. They would have had to get a PG back in any deal. Getting Knight in a Harris deal might have been too good to pass up, but I have a hard time believing KOC would have been comfortable going into next season with a retread Vet starting and a promising rookie backing him up. But if it was Knight, I could see it.

maybe gamestyle is similar, but for me knight seems to have lot more guts than harris. Harris is not a big time player, or clutch guy, but brandon knight seems like he can take a lot more responsiblity

I'm sorry, who is Steven Kyler and why would he know more about the Jazz front office than anyone?

Sure there were tons of Millsap and Harris rumors around draft time... but who started the rumors? Peter Vescey?

I don't really buy the Harris rumors. The Jazz don't have a point guard on their roster besides Devin Harris. We already lived through McCloud and Palacio once, we don't need that again!

I am sure that if the Jazz traded Harris they would be getting a PG back in the trade. I also think Burks can play some PG. I believe that one of the changes talked about was going to a two guard offense so having a stud PG isn't as important. I don't want to trade Millsap. I just think his toughness is needed on this team. Corbin needs to find out if Millsap would be willing to come off the bench. I think Millsap could compete for 6th man if he accept this role. I hope the organization is smart and doesn't panic too soon. I think they should watch the group and sort out their style and then plug the holes where the weaknesses are.

Agreed. We may have tried to trade Harris but nothing I have heard makes sense in terms of trying to move him. Same with Sap.

I think EVERYONE was "available" with the possible exception of Hayward (and then Favors after the Deron trade). Now add Kanter and Burks to that list. Those four can be, depending on how much they develop, the foundation for the franchise. If a good enough offer comes along for Harris, Jefferson or Millsap, KOC should take it. Getting those high salaries off the books would help. As much as I like Millsap, I think by the end of the next season, Favors will be the clear choice to start. I don't think Millsap will be satisfied being the 6th man.

1. Millsap is better than both Harris and Jefferson (since he knows how to play on a team).
2. Millsap is paid significantly less than Harris and Jefferson.
3. Millsap has much less mileage than both Harris and Jefferson and has improved every year of his career.
4. I have no doubts that Millsap will be fine coming off the bench IF Favors beats him out for the starting slot, fair and square.
5. I believe Millsap can become something like Matt Harpring (rich man's) if he is given notice in the offseason to adapt his body to more of a SFs. Which in itself might solve the problem.

But I do also think anyone except those four players are available for the right price. I would just put Millsap's price much higher than Harris and Jefferson. You don't trade a highly adaptable, productive, fundamentally sound, intelligent, hardworking, TEAM player on a cheap contract unless you're getting back something pretty freaking nice (a young, good, true C [i.e. Marc Gasol]; a well-rounded, productive, smart PG that does something besides just crash the lane and is preferably young [Jrue Holiday]; or a proven SF that can spread the floor and isn't too old [Danny Granger if he wasn't 28]).

Available and pushing for a trade are two different animals. The thought that we would trade him and the start a rookie we drafted is bogus. You have to get a quality PG in return to move him and I don't see scenarios out there that create that. Love Earl but don't want him as my main guy for 82 games.
