What's new

Jerel McNeal

There were two stories in the DN and Trib today about Ian Clark's signing and the Jazz roster. In both stories there was no mention of McNeal. None, nada not a word. It would leave me to believe that the guy is going to have to pull a Rusty Larue and lead the team in scoring in preseason. (Larue did that one year and was cut and later brought back when the backup point was injured). The stories lead me to believe that anyone the Jazz sign will just be training camp fodder.

Was it KOC that signed McNeal?

I think Lindsey's in full control mod now, and he's just not a Spurs type player. So I'm pretty sure he'll be gone pretty soon.

McNeal was brought in during the season after they brought up Travis Leslie and didn't resign him. This was on Lindsey's watch and perhaps he's seen enough to determine that McNeal is not an NBA talent.

In my recollection, Lindsey only took over proper when the draft workout starts, no? Before that KOC was still holding a tight grip on decisions, wasn't it?

I thought Lindsey was sitting back and observing during the 2013 season. He was in essence traded for Scott Layden and that occurred before the season. I thought the quotes from Leslie and McNeil were for Lindsey and not KOC when the two DLeaguers were signed.

Is it sad that I am more excited about Jerel McNeal than Trey Burke right now?

Said nobody.

I saw some good moments from McNeal in SL. It seemed like he knew his spots and how to get there. He seemed to know what was going on. I don't think it's inconceivable he stays too.

Plus he was playing with a bad knee (MCL Sprain). He might light it up in camp and the preseason when he is feeling good. Remember he outscored our boy Wes and Dwayne Wade at Marquette.

I noticed a blurb that Cleveland invited undrafted free agent Matthew Delladova to fall camp despite a statistically dreadful summer league and three point gards with guaranteed contracts. I'm wondering if this is a showcase for him for Europe or Cleveland is planning a trade. He is a lot like McNeal as as four year starter and his college's all time leading scorer. If he gets cut he might be a guy for the Jazz to keep their eye on.

I realize this isn't apples to apples but McNeals fg % was higher than Mo's, Gordon's, Tinsley, Watson and Junior Lucas last year. The percentage was about what he shot in the DLeague and he averaged about 8 points per game in Orlando.
