SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Several LA Clippers support staff members are reportedly in quarantine away from the team after a New Year’s Eve gathering in a hotel in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Seven LA Clippers support staff members are in quarantine, including one person who tested positive was involved in a staff gathering on New Year’s Eve in Utah. Food and drinks were provided in a presidential suite of a Salt Lake City team hotel.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the event included intermittent mask wearing.

ESPN Sources: Several members of Clippers support staff are quarantined in Salt Lake City after a positive coronavirus test. Contact tracing led back to eight people attending a New Year’s Eve meal at a presidential suite in the team hotel with intermittent mask-wearing.

The Clippers played and lost to the Utah Jazz on Friday, January 1 by a final score of 106-100. Paul George led the team with 25 points and 8 rebounds. Kawhi Leonard had 20 points, 16 rebounds and 9 assists. For the Jazz, Mike Conley led all scorers with 33 points, including 7 assists on 7-of-14 from beyond the arc. Donovan Mitchell added 15 points.

LA’s support staff traveled back to California over the weekend via vans. The team is now in Phoenix to face the Suns on Sunday.

According to a recent memo that Wojnarowski obtained, the league has encouraged teams to “monitor and mete out punishment to staff and players in violation of protocols.”

Wojnarowski is also reporting that no players or coaches were involved. The Clippers are 4-2 on the season with wins over the Lakers, Nuggets, Timberwolves and Trail Blazers. They lost to the Mavericks and Jazz. LA will play three of their next four games on the road.

The Utah Jazz begin a seven-game road trip and will play seven of their next eight games away from Vivint Smart Home Arena. The first stop on that trip will be in San Antonio on Sunday, January 3 at 6 p.m. MST on AT&T SportsNet.
