Poor kid. He's bought into Duncan's Spurs4Lyfe doctrine. That's fine if you're Duncan, Dirk, Malone, etc. but not if you're Kawhi. I mean, I respect the hell out of anyone who does this but a) it sucks for us and b) it's not going to earn him more rings unless he does what Duncan did on his following deal and takes less. Even then, it's going to be ugly for San Antonio trying to recruit talent. There championship history badge will vanish as fast as Duncan and Pop do.

Umm no, Utah said they would match any offer. But they didn't say he was a max player. I'm sure DL thought Hayward would get something in the range of $11-12M/per, especially after such a terrible season. It's very unlikely these guys sign for just the QO. More likely is a contract with player options. That way the contract is guaranteed in case of injury. Players have seen what's happened to Paul George, Wes Matthews, etc. Just too big a risk to sign a 1 yr deal for way under market value.
With the money we have, we need to be looking at adding a big (where we're really thin), and maybe even getting Booker re-signed. Don't know if that's possible, but I doubt he would pull a Boozer and go elsewhere if he were freed from his contract in order to sign a longer-term deal.
The Popovich coaching tree has been very successful. The Spurs will get someone from that tree. The only thing that is going to suck for them is getting another All-Star level player once Duncan leaves. Replacing Duncan is going to be the hardest thing, but they could get Aldridge this summer.

The only way I can see them trading Kawhi Leonard is if they flame out after Pops, Duncan, Parker and Ginobli are all gone. I could see them going into full-blown rebuild mode and trying to get a major haul for him. In that case, I would expect him to force his way out to a team that could retain his Bird rights and extend him to a major long-term deal. This assumes that he inks a 2 or 3 year contract this offseason with the intent of becoming an unrestricted free agent a shortly after the new TV deal kicks in.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a number of RFAs sign deals (or offer sheets) nearly identical to what Chandler Parsons got in Dallas.

If in rebuild mode, why would u trade away ur young star? Generally u get less back. It's much easier to build if u already have that young stud as they are hard to find. I feel it's best to build through the draft then trading ur best young player. The only reason u trade that young star is because of another DWill situation, and not thinking he will resign.

Leonard didn't do too well yesterday. If spurs loses to the clippers in 1st round, maybe spurs will second guess on wether sign leonard max deal
