Did someone actually say malone was the dirtyest player? He was not a super clean player, but have you ever seen the pistons play? Bill was playing hockey without skates on. What molone did is very like what Kobe and other guards do to draw fouls. They get a player to extend thier arms then make contact. Malone did it in the post like may other post players did, he was just really explosive when he did it. It also sent a message to the defense that he was going to the basket and if you got close you might get popped. It was perfectly legal and still is.

On the leg kick thing, I remember Kobe doing the same thing on his three point shots to try and draw fouls untill the league started cracking down.

Malone was also accused of throwing elbows. Which he did when he would grab rebounds. But who wasnt taught to get your elbows out and clear space to sucure the ball. I know I did. Malone was big and didnt want someone getting the ball. You where going to foul him or get moved out of the way.

It was a much more physical game. You would have double expulsions for what didnt get called on every play beteen barkley, oakley, malone, mchale, and just about any of the good power forwards and centers at the time. Malone was not blameless or some paragon of purity, but he was not any more "dirty" than many others.

Great find. It wasn't shown in the clip but that game was played on Mother's Day and at the end of the interview the reporter gave Malone a chance to send out his wishes and he says: "I'd like to say Happy Mother Day to my mom back in Louisiana, Happy Mother day to my wife in Utah...Happy Mother Day around the world - what the hell."

I hated this one.
Robinson has always been one of my favorite players.
He is a class person, and was a great player.

I love Karl Malone and will defend him endlessly but that was probably the dirtiest play of his career. Granted, it was a standard move for him to flail his arms toward the basket (whether he had the ball or not - which in this case he didn't) to sell it to the refs that he was shooting but he was clearly trying to hit Robinson with his left elbow - not to give him a concussion but definitely to send a message. The bizarre thing is Robinson was called for a foul on the play on a reach.

Later in that game, Duncan and Will Perdue tried to retalitate with cheap shots of their own, but Malone took them pretty well. Then in the playoffs Robinson and Popavich argued that Malone was kicking them on his shots - which was absurd.

Backstabber.

No one wants to see it except you. Anyone who has ever been in a fight knows it was a cheap shot, a bitch move.

karl was one of the dirtiest players in the league when he played, but he was ours so we loved him! those pics are awesome!

Watch it sister, this is borderline Laker-worthy fanfare. I can see you still have your loyalty intact, but questioning too much can lead you down the wrong road (to Staples Center).

...watched all 5 minutes of that video....and was Malone ever on fire from the outside!!! Very few pick and rolls with Stockton that night....quite strange! But the Jazz only scored like 80 points! I would like to see the box score of that game!

I was at that game, lower bowl for once in my life, and I don't recall it being dirty. He caught the ball with his back to the basket, Robinson came up behind him, Malone turned to go (emphatically) to the basket, and Robinson's chin just happened to be there. Not sure how that could be called dirty.

Keep your damn head out of the friggin way!
