If you have friends or family members that have recently wed, you'll get a bunch of re-gifted stuff. It's like a big white elephant party.

This is true, but I know I always appreciate when there's a registry. A lot of people will use it, especially if you have things in a decent price range. But it's true that you'll get all sorts of odd stuff that's not on your list.

And don't register for too much or too many different things. And as far as tableware goes, it's very unlikely you'll actually end up with a complete set of anything.
