Tyrone Corbin – Head Coach (9-5 this season)
On the physical play and technical fouls
“We’ve got to be smarter about it, but we don’t want to get pushed around by anybody. They made the calls. I like to see the fight; we’re not going to let anybody push us around. Guys have to step up for themselves, but we don’t want to make crazy fouls. I didn’t really see what happened with Derrick’s second technical foul.”
On the Maverick’s play
“They’re good. That’s a good ballclub. They did the things they needed to win. They made the big shots and they are a good team. We put up a good fight, but came up short.”
C.J. Miles – Forward (17 points, 3 rebounds)
On the failed comeback
“A couple of times we couldn’t convert, and Jason Terry made a big three. They had some big buckets down the stretch, and we had a couple of times when we couldn’t convert and the stress got to us.“
On Utah’s play in the second half
“The energy level was low in the first half…it seemed like we couldn’t get it going. But we did try to get it going towards the half, and it carried over into the second half. But with a team like that, especially a veteran team, they’ve got guys that know how to make plays and they showed that tonight.”
On sticking up for each other on the court
“It’s our teammate. It’s basically my brother. We are with each other every day. We love each other and we go out and play hard for each other, and that is why we are starting to get better because we guys really start to trust each other and believe in each other.”
Devin Harris – Guard (2 rebounds, 2 assists)
On the game
“They (Dallas) know what to do late in the game. They have guys who make big time shots, and that’s what you saw tonight.”
On the intensity of the Jazz
“We see it every day in practice. They care for one another, they want to protect one another, and we don’t want to see anyone get pushed around out there.”
On the problems in the first half
“We let them get a little too comfortable. Defensively, I thought we were lacking energy a little bit. We weren’t really into it like we needed to be.”
Derrick Favors – Forward (2 points, 2 rebounds)
On being frustrated for getting ejected
“I was pretty frustrated. There were a lot of emotions in the game.
On having to watch the rest of the game from the locker room
“It was tough. I let my emotions get the best of me.”
On Earl Watson standing up for him
“He showed good leadership.”
On being a united team that stands up for one another
“We’re a tight team. We stand up for each other. We watch each other’s backs.”
Rick Carlisle – Head Coach (9-7 this season)
On his team’s play down the stretch
“It’s as good a win as we have had all year for a lot of reasons. Number one, what we have been through the last couple of games, and to bounce back is huge. And you know in this building you are in altitude, this is as loud a place (as there is), tonight this was louder than I have heard all year.”
Adjustments made in the 4th quarter
“The adjustment is to keep fighting and understand that you have to be tougher than their team. They are a tough minded team.”
On how he feels about the Jazz played
“Ty Corbin is doing a great job. They have lost a lot of key guys – Kirilenko and Okur are gone, they got some other guys that were mainstays here and aren’t here anymore. These young guys are playing hard and playing within the system and their big guys are getting better and better … They are really good and they are going to get better.”
Shawn Marion – Forward (22 points, 7 rebounds)
On playing with so many new teammates
“I’m just playing ball, just trying to do what I can to help this team. We are an older team, but at the same time that’s not an excuse. We’re still trying to get the chemistry right because we’ve got a lot of new players, get a feel for everybody, where they’re going to be at, where they’re not going to be at. It’s a process. We’re taking baby steps to get where we want to be.”
On if there’s concern with the recent close games
“Yes and no. At the same time, those are learning points. You’ve got to try to learn from each game that’s close and try to take something new from it. Each game is new to us and everybody is new. At the same time, everybody is young and athletic.”
Dirk Nowitzki – Forward (12 points, 5 rebounds)
On the importance of this win
“This is a big win. This is a tough place to play. They’re a great home team ever since I got in the league with Stockton and Malone. This is a tough place to play, tough place to win. The crowd gets into it like no other place. I’m happy with this team win.”
