In the likely event that Kanter is available at #3, take him to bring more scoring and rebounding to the frontcourt. This move would potentially make Paul Millsap more move-able. Then find a scenario where they can trade Devin Harris or Paul Millsap to the Kings for the #7 pick and some player to make the salaries match. Preferably, they could get an expiring contract that would free up some salary over the next year. Sacramento does this because they seem to be in the market for a productive forward or a good point guard.
Select Jimmer at 7 to lead the team in the case that Devin Harris leaves town and not Paul. Even if Devin stays, pick Jimmer and have him be Devin's understudy until he's ready to run the team (which I think will be pretty soon). Keep the #12 pick and select Alec Burks or Klay Thompson if Harris leaves. If Paul goes to Sactown, pick up Chris Singleton to replace Millsap's contributions at a discount.
One final pre-draft contribution on why I think Jimmer is at least worth the #7 pick, whether Sacramento picks him there or we trade something to draft him at that spot. Much has been made of his star potential with the Jazz (ticket sales, etc.) but I believe that Jimmer's upside is not being stressed enough. His critics seem to think that, because he was a four-year player in college, that he has reached what is believed to be his ceiling. I completely disagree.
Jimmer has improved every year since leaving high school and this ridiculous past season is a testament to that fact. He is still progressing, and for a person who welcomes the opportunity to improve his game by competing against the best, Jimmer has yet to show us all that he can do. Jimmer is about to take on the very best players in the world and where others think that they will show Jimmer up and expose his weaknesses on a nightly basis, I believe they will bring out the best in him. As far as I'm concerned, this kid has a good deal of skills that will translate to the pros, and will work like hell to improve the ones he needs to work on. I get a great vibe from him that he will work like Ray Allen to stay fit and improve over the course of his career. He already has and THAT will contribute the most to him becoming a very good pro for whatever team takes him.
