My Apologies to Big Al and this team

:oI'm sorry I doubted Al and this team. I took the position at the beginning of the year that we should blow it up for draft picks and go into full rebuilding mode.

I didn't believe that this would be a good team with the mixture of young guys, the black hole big Al, no pass Devin Harris, can't shoot Raja Bell, and old *** no defense Memo Okur.
Now, alot of things still remain true. Such as Al is still a blackhole, but he is clearly improving in that area. Raja still can't shoot, but has proven that he still has a use on defense. Devin Harris is still a bad passer, but is getting better at the pick and roll. And Memo... well I got my wish and he is gone.

So why have I changed my position? Because this team plays DEFENSE! I LOVE IT! I hated how bad our old team was at defense. I hated watching Memo and Boozer trying to defend the middle. Maybe it was mostly Boozer's fault, maybe it was mostly Okur's fault, or maybe it was Jerry's fault for forcing middle. I don't know. But I do know that it was the reason why we couldn't win a championship.

This team is so young in terms of playing with each other, and already, they are far better than that old team, as far as defense goes. Our offense isn't as good, but I believe that it will come. We are bordering on being the best defensive team in the league. And I think it will continue and get better. Ty has done a wonderful job to this point. My only complaint is that Favors needs more minutes. I get worried that not playing him will leave a bad taste in his mouth, sorta like it did to Deron. And he is clearly on his way to being a great player. But other than that, it's looking pretty good boys. We may have lost to the Lakers, but you have to admit that it looked and felt so much different than the last few years playing those guys.

So, in summary, I don't think we should trade anybody at this point anymore. I like what I am seeing. And I realize that we our headed for "rough seas" with all the road games coming up. But I am not worried. I believe that defense carries over on the road more than offense does. I believe we are headed for the playoffs this year barring any injuries.

Also, I must acknowledge those who stood up for this team as I blasted the team. You were right. I was wrong.
I don't remember many of the names except Loggrad and Thee Jazz fan. Although Thee Jazz fan flip flopped and did his own thread to trade Al. LOL. O well, it's cool Thee Jazz fan. You were right in the first place. I know there were others but I can't remember your names. Sorry!

I love this team as much as any of you, and I am happy to see them doing well.

What?

Mostly how I feel.

I admit however that our rookies (and sophs too) are pretty raw in a lot of ways. My hope is that they will learn from watching the vets play, because they will likely not get a lot of time with the mistakes they make. I've decided that Burks is a ludicrously talented rat ball player who knows how to pass the ball. Favors has been so much more athletic than his competition for so long that he has never had to learn some of the basic fundamentals. If these two players learn to play in an offence, with their talents to pick up the slack when things break down, then the Jazz may become unstoppable. For now however, they can watch and learn and help when they can.

(Hayward and Kanter have been discussed already a lot, Hayward needing to be more aggressive going to the hoop and Kanter needing to be more explosive and to develop an mid range game.)

So, in summary, I don't think we should trade anybody at this point anymore.

I could trade CJ for a tuna sandwich. It would have to have those celery pieces in it though. I love those things.

I feel bad cause I find myself secretly hopeing that Jefferson gets a minor injury resulting in him missing 5-8 games, which inturn allows Favors to get some more minutes and prove that he deserves more minutes when Al comes back!! Is this wrong?

I want to trade Al, not because I don't like him, but I don't know if he is in the long term plans for the Jazz. The sooner you trade him the more value we will get in return for him. I see the business side of it. Trade him before the other teams realize he isn't in the future plans. I still like Al. That thread was also brought on by frustration. At the time it looked like he hadn't improved from the year before, but may have been premature on that.

You are right about the defense. It seems to have greatly improved, and I wish I knew why the guys are playing D for Ty when they didn't for Jerry. Of course, it makes no difference now, does it? I'm just glad to see them playing aggressive D, getting a few fast breaks because of it, and watching it improve their confidence.

I already feel he deserves more minutes. He just needs to be patient and pay his dues, his time will come.

this team is filled with young hungry players like Favors Kanter Hayward trying to make it with a guy like Howard trying for "one last shot in the sun" if you get my meaning. There is Bell who's minutes aren't guaranteed, and the only way he gets minutes is playing hard nosed defense, and Al isin better shape, and has the tools of a good defender. As a good offensive minded player it takes away from his defense. Players under Sloan were payed well established players who didn't buy in. Bell a good defender but older and coming off injuries getting 30 minutes a game was run ragged till he had no energy to play any. It wasn't Sloan's system, in the early to the lat 90's they were a good defensive team. John and Karl helped Sloan keep everyone in line. The jazz had no one on the team to keep everyone on the team in check after J@K left.

I didn't expect this team to be as good as it is either. I only realized it was better than I thought like a game or two ago. It has an interesting mix of young guys and vets all buying into coach's philosophies. Plus the team is just plain exciting to watch, and not all teams are.

Im just so excited to see the defense we are playing. Its very hard to find teams that buy into defense. And its defense that is going to win championships. I am starting to be ok with some of these guys shooting struggles, such a bell, because of the commitment on defense.

I am enjoying this season thoroughly! Nobody was giving this team a chance to be a playoff team this, year...but looky what we have.

But more importantly, I am just enjoying watching every game. Usually I don't watch whole games, but this year, I find that I am. And I love what I see. Lots of hustle, and just great basketball.

And I love Big Al. Yeah, I know he has limitations, but who doesn't? I accept who he is and what he brings to the table. I think fans are still too spoiled by Karl Malone and expect all of our bigs to meet his standard.

Obviously, we are not currently a championsip team, but that is fine with me. We have a lot of young talent, and the future is bright. Still, one of my favorite jazz teams ever was the one right after Stockton retired and we just missed the playoffs. That team played with heart, and that is ultimately what I like to see.

Sure, I want to win a ring, but even if we don't, we can still enjoy the games and the team.

I'm not going to hate on our own players. Sure, CJ is struggling, but I still cheer for him. Sure, Raja has been almost a complete nightmare, but I still want to see him do well. Doesn't happen much, but I can appretiate what he has done the last couple of games.

I am also very confident in our coaching staff and I trust them to do the right thing.

Yes, call me a homer.
