I am a dozenalist. I know what your thinking, wtf is a dozenalist. Simply put, I believe that base 10 is a horrible choice for us to use and that base 12 would be far more intuitive and accurate for the average person.

So why does 12 inch equal 1 foot,
3 feet = 1 yard
22 yards = 1 chain
10 chains = 1 furlong
8 furlongs = 1 mile
3 miles = 1 league

And the most important question, why would anyone use such a retarded measurement system?

I am still not seeing where this is better than a base 10, or even hex system, or even binary, which are all already in use.
 
It's interesting that 12 is a more common measure unit when you'd think, especially in time measurements. Modern or ancient, 12 is the dominant unit in most kind of calenders or clocks.

However, when it comes to actual counting, the majority of the languages are based on powers of ten. It stands like it was a natural evolution of the human-numbers relationship.

Technically, 12 looks more advantageous than decimal system in math but I don't see a major practical advantages of using 12 based number system in daily life. Main reason is, both 10 base and 12 base are equally easy for human mind. Our brain is capable of understanding them both easily. So I can say, no need for any change.

I'd change the names of 11 and 12 though, for children. Oneteen instead of eleven and twoteen instead of twelve. (Children suggest this kind of changes all the time in preschools)

If that is your standard, why not use base 210? All of the first ten numbers will have a finite representation in that base.

A base 210 number system would require 210 separate and unique characters. Base 12 requires only two additional symbols to the decimal system.

The metric system wouldn't work with a base-12, and the metric system is incredible compared to the english/imperial system. We here in the US will HOPEFULLY, EVENTUALLY, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY convert to the metric system someday.

Not even worth considering changing from a base-10.

After thinking on it a little bit more, I think dozenal system has no advantage in math at all except very simple arithmetic. Other than arithmetic, especially in higher math there would be zero difference.

In simple arithmetic it obviously make it easier to divide things. And it would reduce the infinite repeating after the point in fractional numbers. For instance 1/3 would be 0.4 instead of 0.3333333..... Or 1/4 would be 0.3 instead of 0.25.

But still, especially while the metric system(a wonderful system) in usage it would be absolutely stupid to change to the dozenal system. If the choice was before the metric system invented, I'd prefer to fix the metric system to dozenal system, so a meter would be 120 cm instead of 100 cm of the current system, and we would still call it(or write it) as 100 cm in dozenal system, and that would be certainly wonderful.

However I'm not convinced that the counting to 12 is more natural than counting to ten. It's good to have lots of factors to make dividing easier but when it comes to count, I believe decimal is the most natural system. Otherwise why would almost all of the languages be based on 10s?
 
Really we should use Base SIX because six is both the sum and the product of the first three numbers.
1+2+3=6
1*2*3=6


Therefore SIX is a SPECIAL number that should be given special privileges.
