I've only been upset about one infraction .. and that was only because I see it done all the time .. no biggie though.

I've said this before, but I think it bears repeating; other mods may be different, but I don't patrol the boards. I go to threads that interest me, and participate if I feel inclined. If something is a blatant violation of the rules, or particularly egregious, I'll act on it. Most of the time I just assume you guys are mature enough to be civil with each other. I figure, if there's a problem, someone will report it, and I'll deal with it then.

It is amusing to me, however, that when someone gets banned the mods take a load of grief for being unfair (almost regardless of the circumstances), but if nobody gets banned for a period of time, it's because we're slacking off on our duties.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I'm the same way. It has to be real blatant before I report something. I think I've reported about 5 posts in my mod tenure.

Hey, I'm not asking for more active moderation, just seems some of the mods have stepped back without stepping down. I wouldn't be a mod if you paid me (mods don't get paid, right?).

I usually take both ways as said in jest ... except for the person who got the infraction/ban .. they sometimes seem to be seriously ticked.

I will be the first to admit that inconsistencies can and will occur in the moderating of the board. If a full-time set of mods could review each case, we might be able to iron that out, but as it is, who votes on what comes down to who's on the board when an issue arises.

Understood. The infraction I'm referring to was putting asterisks to mask the 'bad' word but spelling out the portion of the word that was clean. I actually thought I was within board rules, but screwed up.

You gotta just type out the word and let the filter do it all. That's why some words will look like this: ****ing, or ****er, etc. That's the filter taking out the filtered part of the word.
