The Spurs have 9 players averaging 5.1 points or better. The Jazz have six. Look at Neto's, Booker's and Saps field goal percentage and it will make you weep.

Too many cakks and pies. I'm ****ing grateful we didn't spend any of those $$$ during Free Agency.

Jazz are 28th in payroll and that's only because Lillard is still on his rookie deal - when he gets maxed out next year it will be Utah and Philly at the bottom.

And yet DL has stated on numerous occasions that he's been authorized to spend UP TO the luxury tax threshold.

Sigh.

There are two guys in Cleveland's rotation that could have been had for cheap: Richard Jefferson and Jared Cunningham. That would mean that playing time for a young 2/3 would be curtailed.

Even if not the big dollars... guys like Omri Casspi signed for super cheap... he'd be great as a small ball 4. Jerebko, Teletovic, even a guy like Jon Leuer could have been had without being spendy at all. I think there is some cost cutting, but DL wouldn't ever paint the Millers in that way. My guess is we'd go up to Luxury tax to win a championship... not to build a good playoff team. We are right at 90% of the cap so the bare minimum salary. I'll bet Porty takes on salary for picks at the deadline.

Jazz don't need a 2/3.

Jazz need two veterans to back-up the 4/5 position - one preferably a 3/D type.

And they need a veteran 1 - Neto's ceiling is probably decent back-up PG so taking minutes from him is not a major concern.

How do you spend very much over the cap until you start re-signing your own players? There are only a couple of exceptions to do so. I think DL counted on getting Tomic. And with a healthy Exum, the Jazz would have had their 8-man rotation to develop. No need for crappy vets to take minutes away. This is a throw-away season. Hopefully make the playoffs, but need some key additions next season. Not to mention that thus far, it appears Lindsey has thrown away another lottery pick, First Burke and now Lyles. Is it time to replace DL?

Jazz are keeping that cap space available for upcoming pay days to current players.
