Yet the Atlanta Jazz are barely .500, and Charlotte is several games under.
Keeping Wes would have precluded a few of the other acquisitions and/or draft picks. I think every team can say, "where would we be if "x" were still here?" If OKC still had Harden would they be undefeated?
Add Millsap and Jefferson and the Jazz likely have to let Favors go next season. Can't pay that much $ out to three bigs. Or, I guess you can just let Hayward walk. And if the Jazz had Matthews at his salary, the money wouldn't have been there for others. Utah is not rich enough to go into the luxury tax for multiple years under the new CBA. I have no doubt the Jazz would be right there battling for the 6th-8th seed if Lindsey had re-signed Millsap (or Jefferson), JYD and Foye (sorry, don't want Mo).
But then what? Is a core of Al, Paul and take your pick at a third (Hayward or Favors) going to ever contend?
Jefferson can have great stats as the #1 option on bad team. Millsap can be a 2nd or 3rd option on an average team. JYD's stats are easily replaceable. I'll concede Wes is a good value right now for what was once an outrageous contract.
