This morning I was looking at the NBA stats and noticed that we have six Jazzmen emeterius scoring in the double figures. You have Al, Sap, Wes, JYD, Foye and Mo. Okay I fudge a little on Mo as he's just short of 10. I was amazed at JYD. Anyway kind of makes you wonder if you would combine these guys with our 5 and would we be a 60 win team this year.

Yet the Atlanta Jazz are barely .500, and Charlotte is several games under.

Keeping Wes would have precluded a few of the other acquisitions and/or draft picks. I think every team can say, "where would we be if "x" were still here?" If OKC still had Harden would they be undefeated?

Add Millsap and Jefferson and the Jazz likely have to let Favors go next season. Can't pay that much $ out to three bigs. Or, I guess you can just let Hayward walk. And if the Jazz had Matthews at his salary, the money wouldn't have been there for others. Utah is not rich enough to go into the luxury tax for multiple years under the new CBA. I have no doubt the Jazz would be right there battling for the 6th-8th seed if Lindsey had re-signed Millsap (or Jefferson), JYD and Foye (sorry, don't want Mo).

But then what? Is a core of Al, Paul and take your pick at a third (Hayward or Favors) going to ever contend?

Jefferson can have great stats as the #1 option on bad team. Millsap can be a 2nd or 3rd option on an average team. JYD's stats are easily replaceable. I'll concede Wes is a good value right now for what was once an outrageous contract.

Could have probably kept Millsap for 32 million over 4 years. He is getting 19 for 2 years right now, so it would make sense he would take slightly less per year for additional years on his contract.

Personally think it's one of the biggest mistakes of the past 10 Jazz years. Only way I really see it being justified is if our draft pick ends up in the top 3. Would rather have a relatively cheap Millsap and the 9th pick than no Millsap and the 6th pick.

I agree it would have been nice to keep him. But commit to Millsap and the Jazz would be commiting to a run at the playoffs. No way do I think they get the #9 pick. Jazz would be better than all the EC non-playoff teams + at least Sacramento and LA if not Minny and Denver. So around 12/13, IMO. Atlanta swooped in and got him on the cheap when he had no other suitors. I think he would have wanted at least $9M-$10M with Utah. Had to accept less once Utah withdrew and his choices were limited.

In hindsight, is Millsap/Favors better for Utah than Kanter/Favors? Well, Enes has certainly been disappointing. But hindsight is easy. Jazz thought Kanter and Favors were ready for break-out seasons and only Millsap and Jefferson were holding those two back.

I will agree with you on Kanter next year as he will have no excuse for the shoulder rehab then. This year he still gets a bit of a pass from me.

Good post

Al Jefferson will never be a starter on a 60-win team, especially with Foye and Mo on the same team....

Seriously, add Lebron to that team and they won't win 60 in the west.

Really? Even more so than the departure of Matthews or the trading away of DMC? I loved Millsap when he was here and loved him in the beginning but he was undersized and too slow to fit him in either the 3 or 4 spot. I thought we went as far as we could with him.

wanted to keep millsap. millsap with a real team orientated system this jazz team would be fying for home court.

would be etter than gettting the 7-9th pick in this draft

this just suck. no end in sight.
no top 5 lotery pick and no playoff.
and we get to develop jefferson for some other title contender.

Yeah, I feel you. It gets tiring and taxing for sure... It's like coming home one day and finding out that Troutdumb has moved in next door.
