Lets pull up last years stats. Per 100 Favors scored more points (27 to 26) on better shooting overall (.515 to .470), Had a better offensive rating (on a worse team), Favors had a better PER, turned the ball over less (although he did have a slightly lower usage). If you go back 2 years ago Favors stats were better than Millsaps in almost every category. The only thing Millsap does better is shoot the three. All this at 6 years younger as well. If you compare by age it is not close at all.
When they both played for the Jazz it was very obvious that Favors was the better defender. Stats favored him as a better defender then, although I think individual defensive stats are useless. Millsap gets more steals which is part of his defense style, he gambles a lot. Getting to watch them side by side it was pretty obvious on defense Favors was better. Millsap has played on the better team after leaving Utah until this season. The one year both of them played in the playoffs for the Jazz Favors out performed him.
I think Jazz fans just want to remember Millsap as more than he was. I think people also forget that he quit on our team, he stopped giving a **** and putting any effort in towards the end of his last year here. It cost him getting a decent contract that year. Millsap has had big drop offs when it matters in the playoffs. His big advantage of threes almost disappeared the last couple years in the playoffs.
Favors when healthy is a better all around player than Millsap and has been for a couple seasons.
The only reason I would ever consider trading Favors for Millsap is if the team knew Favors wasnt going to get all the way healthy again. But then why would a team trade for Favors? If we were for some silly reason going to trade a player as good as Favors who wants to be here and took a discount to stay we could get more for him than Millsap on an expiring contract who didnt want to be here. He wanted to leave Utah when he was restricted (signed with Portland and didnt want it matched by Utah) left the first chance he got as an unrestricted FA and quit putting in effort his last year.
