Philly Burke Trade

https://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=jnfcz9l

Jazz send GS 1st rounder and Burke for Covington and Canaan.

Covington would be a good backup PF/SF who can space the floor and Canaan gives us a backup for the rest of the year.

Is a late first rounder too much to give up for Covington?

I wouldn't do it. It's a downgrade at the pg spot and we get a 4th sg/sf who will play limited minutes once Burks returns which might be Thursday I presume.

Is he? Or are Covington's % a factor of playing on the Sixers?

It's not even just percentages, it's about being a smarter, more impactful player. Obviously it's my opinion. I've watched a fair share of 76ers games because they're an interesting team to bet the spread on. He can't hit anything and the majority of his shots are catch-and-shoot anyways.

Philly makes marginal players look good. I mean SOMEONE has to score!

See KJ McDaniels. Starter and looks like a hero playing in Philly. Can't get off the bench for a struggling Houston team.

Covington has scoring ability, a skill this team lacks and Ingles brings zero of that to the table

I'm not trying to make a point at all but have you actually watched Covington? Generally curious because I doubt general fans have seen him at all.

Covington has been playing on one of the worst teams in NBA history and has managed to look like a decent player who could fit a niche roll coming off the bench. I'd think it would be a good risk.

The GS pick is going to be like the 30th overall pick. It might have less value than an early 2nd round pick.

Not if the team is looking to package multiple first round picks in a deal. The ability to trade multiple consecutive picks is a good thing to have. I wouldn't sell that for Covington TBH.

Taking a risk that he's a different player on our team is not worth it. I mean almost all his scoring is assisted. If anything you could make the argument he looks even better on a worse team cause he has free reign to put the ball up.

So you are saying he is a good catch and shoot player and could maybe benefit from being on a team that has players who can make plays instead of being on the Sixers who start D-League players on the perimeter?

He's not a good catch-and-shoot player. At least not better than Ingles.
