Portland's looking for a PG in the draft with Nets' pick

Via David Aldridge (NBA.com):

Still, by dealing Wallace, Portland dramatically increased its chances of keeping Nicolas Batum, a rising restricted free agent. And the cherry on top is the first-rounder the Blazers got from Jersey in the Wallace deal that is only protected 1-3. After the demise of Brandon Roy, the Blazers "need to find a backcourt star," general manager Chad Buchanan said Saturday, "either a dynamic point guard or a ball-handing two guard." That pick, along with Portland's own pick -- which is, now, almost certain to also be in the lottery -- should provide the opportunity to do just that, and get the Blazers on the road to recovery.

Portland's "future" roster situation as it stands seems to support the GM's comment:

PG - ??
SG - Matthews
SF - Batum
PF - Aldridge
C - ??

Portland has Net's pick which is around 4-5 range (with Charlotte, Wizards and NO a lock in top 3) and again around 11th with its own pick. So if Portland's intention is to find a "dynamic point guard" first and foremost would it be too much of a reach for them to pick Lillard at the 4-5 spot? (Knowing that Utah could pick him up at around the 9th spot?) That would be a reach I know but it has happened before in 2008 when Westbrook was supposed to go 8-9 but was picked 4th by the Sonics.

A lot could change between now and draft time but it seems Portland has positioned itself to impact our future once again.

Rivers, Lillard, Marshall. Those seem to be their potential targets. I knew once I saw them tanking they where going to draft a PG. Just to **** us over.

I would think Rivers would be their main target. He could be their answer to replace the retired Roy.

Ford is projecting us to take lillard at 9. I would be ok with that. Keep in mind that Phoenix is also looking for a pg. I would love for Marshall and lillard to be off the board and Portland has to take wroten

Marshall broke his wrist so he'll be slipping big time. Rivers is looking likely to stay in college one more year. More reasons for Portland to go for Lillard early.

I'm not worried. Portland's drafting track record is so terrible. Whomever they chose will end up a bust. So Rivers probably.

I agree they loved Roy and had big success with him so may look to Austin Rivers rather than Lillard or Marshall. With Camby and Oden gone, they will also be candidates for Meyers Lenard or John Henson.

Looks like OKC and Denver are set. Portland, Utah are going to hopefully finalise their rosters for the future with the 2012 draft and Minny is up and coming. NW looks to be set up to continue to be the best division for the next decade.

They have Portland taking Beal with the 4th or 5th pick.

I've seen Scott Machado head up draft boards, so he might be late lottery.

Don't know if I'd take Lillard at 9. Maybe necessary if the Jazz have two picks and worry that another team may take him before the Jazz' next pick.

Still speculation, though, until draft order actually occurs.

If MN ever gets a good two guard they could be quite scary as long as Rubio comes back 100%.

breaks

Yeah cause it's incredibly easy to dribble, pass and defend with a broken wrist....

Yeah cause if you break your non-shooting hand it has as much effect on the risk to future performance as if you break your shooting hand.
