Quotes on the Donovan Mitchell Trade

[Woj] Cleveland is sending its three unprotected picks to Utah in 2025, 2027 and 2029 and picks swaps in 2026 and 2028, sources tell ESPN. Along with the Rudy Gobert trade with Minnesota, Utah has gathered 13 unprotected or lightly protected picks through 2029.

[Woj] Cleveland is suddenly a major force in the East, adding three-time All-Star Donovan Mitchell -- with three years left on his contract -- to a lineup that includes two All-Stars -- Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen -- and a future All-Star with Evan Mobley.

Jesus Christ… Garland, Mitchell, LeBron, Mobley, and Allen would be an absurd starting lineup

That’s some 2K ****.

Pretty hilarious that angry fanbases can't find anything to target with their fake outrage towards like they did when the Browns traded for Watson. All they have is "Who cares Cleveland is a **** city anyways. Cavs are nothing without Lebron"

I’ll always be a Sexton believer. He worked really hard on a **** team for years. I’ll miss him but excited for our future!

This is a very team friendly deal I think lots of teams love Collin at 18m a year - he won’t be on the Jazz for long.

Ainge is going to try to get the Mavs to bite first.

Moral of the story:
If you are a Kansas Jayhawk and drafted by the Cavs in the first round, you will be traded before the start of the season.

Very sad for Lauri, he was loving Cleveland and playing for the Cavs and now has to start all over again.

A lot to give up but man, Garland, Mitchell, Mobley, and Allen is a great core.

3 unprotected 1sts, 2 quality starters and a high upside rookie for Donovan seems like a lot.

Gonna miss Lauri he was excellent. Woulda so much rather given up Okoro than Ochai.

Yeah I'm not into this at all. Way too much to give up for a guy one tier up from Sexton. Sexton, Lauri and 3 first rounders? Sure that's a steal. Throw in Okoro and it's still a steal. But giving away a young promising prospect and holding onto a one-dimensional defender in Okoro for an undersized SG with poor defense who clearly wants to play for a big market team is a bad move imo.

Seems crazy to me. Sexton wasn't far from.DM and younger...

Damn that is a **** ton to give up. It’s looking like we’ll be contenders though.

This is a reallllly bad trade for the Cavs.

yikes... losing Lauri sucks big time

I mean that’s not any different than it was. Mitchell is better than the players we sent to Utah. And he’s likely better than they ever will be. There are reasons to not like the trade but I think that’s a pretty meaningless point. There’s no way we could have traded for an elite player without trading away the core, which ultimately we didn’t do and I think that’s huge.

We won’t have the best player in a series until garland or Mobley become mvp candidates, which is okay. Now we have three years to win it all. Let’s ride.

The real winners are the Cavs fans who couldn't pronounce Agbaji.

Holy hell. I'm close to tears. I don't like this at all.

Shitshitshit. As a Finn (and obviously Lauri fan) this is horrible. It was so exciting to think of our boy as a part of this great, fun and promising Cavs team for the next few years. And now he's going to ****ing Utah to play meaningless basketball again. I'm devasted.

The more i hear about this trade the more i ****ing hate it

In one way we gotta be excited knowing we just got Donovan Mitchell…

Knowing that it’s costing us 8 players though…. Man I hope it works…

Stakes are high now. If this doesn’t work in 2-3 years, we’re blowing it up by trading these guys for picks. Then it’s dark days for a few seasons.

Pain. I guess I will be making my Lauri stats posts in the Jazz sub now. I'll still be a Cavs fan and looking forward to next season, I originally started following the Cavs because of Allen and I love the whole squad now, but it's not gonna be the same without Lauri.

Trade has come full circle. Danny Ainge traded Nets pick for Kyrie, only to get Nets Pick Colin Sexton years later.

Altman lives to let Ainge trade heist him over and over, cavs badly need a SF not another small guard. Team will basically be the Dame CJ Blazers with no future picks. Cant understand why we kept LeVert over Markkanen either

IDK how to feel anymore

Will miss Lauri but this is AWESOME. East runs through CLE!

Top 4 seed at best, cavs boutta go crazy. 4 all stars next year potentially?!! Wild

Might be an overpay, but I’m excited

Same as my reaction to the gobert trade: Probably an overpay, but you gotta do it to try and jump to the next tier of contention

This is bad. Very bad. I really really hope he proves me wrong, but he is a very selfish player that won't fit in with the team mentality. We gave far too much. All this because our super rich owner couldn't give a bit more to keep Sexton.

High price but not terrible. Won’t matter since we will have the last pick in the first round anyway

This is the way

You do whatever it takes to get Mitchell if you get to keep Mobley, Garland, and Allen

Three unprotected firsts, Sexton, Agbaji and Lauri sounds like a lot....

Wow this was surprising

Timberwolves fan here. Over the next few days and weeks the media will most likely say you gave up to much with that many picks but you did the exact same thing we did. You improved greatly and kept your three best players while adding an all NBA talent making those picks more than likely late congrats I am excited to watch you guys this year

The city of Cleveland has traded their entire future for 2 men, this city better win something in the next 3 years

All those picks pretty much means we're all-in for contention now. The window has officially opened.

I was 100% against this but **** it. The timeline just got accelerated with 3 all stars + Mobley. Its time to compete for real.

They desperately needed to take the load off Garland offensively and landed an elite scorer. Also a nice counter to ATL landing Dejounte Murray. Lets go.

GETTING MITCHELL WITHOUT DG, MOBLEY OR ALLEN LETS GOOOOOO

This is the best one. I love this trade. This is most likely 4 All Stars in our starting 5. Has to put us in the top 3 in the East.

People comparing him to sexton like sexton has ever averaged 36 in the playoffs on 50%

Oh god what did we send

Everyone on here gonna be laughing about the ‘Sexton is just as good as Mitchell’ takes once they see an actually great player on the court

Hopefully Rubio can teach him how to pass to bigs.

Swap Mitchell for Sexton? Hell yeah.

Lose Markkanen? Bummer, the guy was great for us, playing out of position, really giving effort on the defensive side, and generally just putting a lot of trust into the team-first approach of the Cavs.

If they're flipping Agbaji they must have some confidence in Okoro's development.
And the picks? It seems the worst case they'll be mid-round for those next few years anyway, and to be honest, the team is overflowing with youth and pressed for roster spots anyway.

DG Mitchell Okoro Mobley Allen

Cedi Ricky Windler LeVert Stevens

Daddy like

This was a bad trade for the Cavs!

Collin Sexton is as good as Mitchell, maybe a level lower and he plays better D than Mitchell

Lauri is still developing and he helped the Cavs in a lot of games last year, especially when he barley gets any plays called for him.

Ochai looks like a very promising NBA player.

I feel like Mitchell will stunt the growth of Garland, and Garland will take a step back for Mitchell

??? This is an awful trade. Holy ****, three unprotected firsts?! AND three players?!

There's no way I can wrap my head around this trade. How is Mitchell even remotely close to being worth that much?!

As long as we didn’t give up either DG-Mobley-Allen I don’t care what else it took, those 4 are at worst instantly a second round team if they’re healthy and if Mobley lives up to even 80% of his potential it’s a finals team

I never, EVER thought that this would happen. What a freaking pickup.

We acquired a player who is probably the best on our team while retaining the top 3 players currently on our team. **** the picks. Great trade. Go Cavs

I'm gonna have to learn to like him, because I've ****ing don't like him. I genuinely didn't want him and don't like his game. We didn't have to ****ing go and trade for this ball dominant chucker. ****ing hell, I'm gonna have to learn to not say this stuff anymore

We gave up a ******** and I was a believer in sexton. I think he can eventually bring most of what Mitchell already brings to the table. Both are basically undersized volume scorers who can’t defend but sexton would have cost wayyy less and been a better value in terms of contract size. Also a little concerned about the spacing considering we just traded 3 of our best shooters for 1 exceptional shooter and it was one of our weak spots last year. Hopefully windler or someone can step up in that regard.

But this is the biggest trade we have ever pulled off so I’m kinda stoked that FO is trying to win now. LFG

This was so dumb considering how we played last year. We don't develop our style and ****ing continue? No we get a guy who's probably gonna start crying and sign elsewhere if he's not taking the lionshare of our shots. **** me, this was dumb. I didn't want Sexton, but at this point just bring him ****ing back. No, flip a billion picks for Mitchell. **** I hope I'm wrong. Still pissed

Mitchell back with Rubio!

Hate it. Bad fit next to DG, Lauri was underrated. No longer a deep team. Still lack a wing. Defense goes from good to below average. If this goes wrong we are screwed for the next decade.

What in the Actual **** is this fleecing.

Koby done ****ed up.

It’s interesting to see how much Cavs fans are lamenting losing Lauri Markkenen. I was thinking he was more of a salary match throw in, but they seem to genuinely like him. Maybe he was one of the actual targets for DA. He’s young still and on a reasonable contract.
