Raja Bell - What was the deal?

I know that Raja had some problems with the coaching staff and there were some reported attitude issues. We just didn't want him around to poison the locker room.

Were we hoping that we could use him somehow at the trade deadline and that is why we agreed to pay him throughout the season to stay away from the team? We didn't buy him out because it was a matter of principle that we don't pay players to not play, correct? Raja wasn't going to agree to anything less than his full contract even though it meant that he was going to sacrifice playing a year in the league.

Does that pretty much sum it up?

I believe that Rodger Baile and Roger Bail are the acceptable spellings. You might also substitute Brail, Baal, or Satan.

They did not buy him out because they were not going to reward him for being an ***. They told him to stay away from the team and to find a trade if he wanted to play or accept a buyout for less than the whole amount. He did not want to do that. They kept him long enough that he could not go to another team and play in the playoffs because he did not want to lose a penny of his contract.
.
I have no sympathy for Roger Braille.

Well. We were hoping to use him, I'd imagine.. but I think we also didn't want him to think we were just going to fall over and let him sign with a contender(which is rewarding him for his crap behavior).

If the Jazz had bought out Roger, there would probably be no Gobert. The NBA limits the amount of $$$ teams can use each season on buyouts, cash considerations on trades, and for 'buying' draft picks. It didn't make sense to me at the time, I mean who wants to endure all the questions and speculation when you could just pre-pay the guys salary and be done with it. But in light of the NBA cash consideration limits it makes perfect sense. Applause for the Millers, KOC and Lindsey for being disciplined enough to stick it out.

Roger Baal to the Nets!!! Just for fun.
