What's new

Rip Hamilton

"Analysts" have been saying that Rip is a good fit for the Jazz for a long time. But I don't think so. He's past his prime and not worth his current salary at all. Getting him would be akin to getting an offensive Raja Bell but without Bell's defense, and at a much higher price.

I don't see anyone on the Jazz roster I would give up for Rip. And honestly I don't see Bell getting traded anytime soon. CJ is probably more likely to leave than Bell and he would have much more value than Bell.

Memo for Rip doesn't really work. Jazz ADD 2.5 in salary which translates to 5 million with tax. KOC isn't making moves that add salary even if losing next year's Memo salary is part of it. At least not without a major savings for AK already lined up.

As Numb said, dealing for Rip gives the Jazz leverage. The question is how much can you get to take Rip off their hands. I would think Detroit would be more eager to deal Gordon anyway. They're going nowhere, Rip gets easier to deal in a year, and Gordon has at least some value despite being overpaid.

I for one would be extremely angry at Jazz management for letting Wes Matthews go away to a rival within our division only to see them lock themselves in with a horrible player with one horrible contract, Rip. Screwing themselves for Rip would make the Wes Matthews debacle look even worse.

exactly this.

Rip wouldve been a perfect fit 10 years ago but he has one of the worst contracts in the NBA right now. If this were to every happen, he'd be vilified worse than Raja & AK put together (where his contract is part Deron's & would hinder us to sign/trade for a player to please DWill).

I would love Rip coming off screens for about 4mil a year, not 12. But somebody will trade for him. Just look at what Orlando did with agent zero. The NBA where amazing happens.

Yeah, it would be awesome to see him coming off screens much like Raja is doing right now.

Unfortunately, coming off screens and shooting isn't the same as coming off screens, shooting, and scoring.

Rip is done. He sucks. Look at his shooting percentages and scoring averages from the past 3 years. This isn't the same Rip that beat the Lakers when Shaq was still a force and Kobe still his sidekick.

Am I the only one who read this as R.I.P. Hamilton and thought Richard Hamilton had died? I'm dead serious.

Orlando also got rid of a bad contract-- Rashard Lewis. Perhaps the worst contract in the NBA.
