For Dante even to be mentioned in the same company as those guys, being as young as he is, is pretty impressive.
This thread is about his defense, not about his offense. I think his offense leaves much to be desired.
I still don't know why people took that comparison so personally, like I've killed their favourite pet or something... It's just stating a fact, it's not a question for debate. Offensively, prior to 2-3 games before he was included in the starting lineup Dante was playing pretty much the exact way Danny Green plays - no creating off the dribble, huge majority of the shots taken on spot up 3s. The %s were scarily similar. The only question for debate really was - does this trend warrant any worries. I had another thread in which I compared him to Marcus Smart and his aggression and even though his style of play offensively right now still frustrates me, I've decided to ease off on the worry and just wait for next season and see if there will be any improvements.
The bottom line is that you were panicked about Dante at some point (however mildly, it doesn't matter), and then you came to jazzfanz carrying that air of panic. Then you made a reasoned comparison in a post. Fine. My point is that there is a better reason on offer: don't panic yet (about anything short of a serious injury). At all. It's too soon. He's too raw. And, the positives are outweighing the negatives right now anyway, so there's that, too.
repped. But! The end of this season will also be too soon. I'm setting my first check-in with Dante for the All Star break of next season.
