Punch Bowl Re-Filler
One thing was certain leading up to the draft. There was pretty much a consensus on who the top 5 players would be. We also heard rumors KOC tried to trade up into the top-5 but was unable to do so.
We can all agree Hayward has struggled. But it may be good to compare him against the others we could have taken at #9. In fact, I went all the way up to #6. Seriously, to those who have decided Hayward is already a bust, have you taken the time to compare him against the others in his draft class (well, outside of Wall, Turner, Favors, Johnson and Cousins)?
I'll try to update this thread every 10 games or so. In fact, I'd welcome the help if someone else wants to also do it.
#6 - Udoh: Hurt, hasn't played.
#7 - Monroe: 17 mins/per. 3.9 pts, 5 rbds on 33%. Rebounding is pretty good, but 33% for a big?! That's terrible.
#8 - Aminu: 14 mins/per. 5.5 pts, 3 rbds on 46%. Not bad. But he wasn't available at #9 so it's a "mute" point.
#9 - Honzward: 11 mins/per, 3 pts, 2 rbds on 37%.
#10 - George: 18 mins/per, 6 pts, 3 rbds on 38%. Slightly better than Hayward.
#11 - Aldrich: 10 mins/per, 1 pt, 2 rbds, 0.2 blocks. Not exactly the great defender, inside presence/shot-blocker some thought he'd be.
#12 - Henry: 14 mins/per, 7 pts, 2 rbds on 40%. Better than Gordon, but not a whole lot.
#13 - Davis: Injured, has not played.
#14 - Patterson: Has not played. Is being sent to the D-League
#15 - Sanders: 6 mins/per, 2.0 pts, 1.0 rbds on 42% shooting. Meh.
#16 - Babbitt: 5 mins/per, 1.0 pts, 1.0 rbds on 25% shooting.
Conclusion: everyone taken between 6 and 16 is a major bust. In the next CBA, owners should ask for the right to rescind contracts after the first 10 games of a season. It's clear NONE of these guys will even achieve role-player status in the league.
Edit: SARCASM alert.
What is clear is that Hayward is struggling just like most of his fellow rookies. Even Favors, Johnson and Turner have had bad games lately.
As for Jeremy Evans being a better pick? Well, rebounding and cathcing alley-oops translates pretty well from college to the pros. Jeremy was torched on defense last night. I wouldn't declare him the next Millsap and Hayward the next Snyder just yet.
