What's new

Rudy wants Fournier to sign with The Jazz.

So was I, Fournier is currently a RFA if I recall correctly so this might be nothing more than just playful banter from Rudy. But its a BIG thing when our players can help dispell the illusion that playing in Utah sucks. The fact that we could build a whole team out of players who've been here speaks volumes about the quality of our organization.

And also bear in mind, a max deal this offseason would look like a huge bargain in 2 years after the cap explodes.

I bet we see a lot of 2-3 year deals with max/near-max UFA's this offseason who are keeping the cap bonanza in mind.

The cap was 70M this year. It will explode to around 92M this coming season with a LT threshold of 111M. Owners and players can choose to opt out of the CBA after that. If neither do, they're projecting a 105M cap. Otherwise, the projections are 107M for the 2017-2018 season with a LT threshold of 127M.

Food for thought. And right now, I think we have about 60.5M committed to next season. I think Booker has a cap hold of 6M+.

The first thing I would do is trade Burke and Pleiss (6.3M combined) for anything. Free. Hell, I'd add a 2nd rounder to just dump them. That would rid us of dead weight. I'd then look to extend Gobert (I think we can) and if he can opt out (which I think he can), Hayward. 5 years, 90M for Gobert. 5 years, 110M for Hayward. Those would be huge paydays for those guys and yet very reasonable given the cap increases. I think it would be tough to pull off those deals (prob need to go 100M and 120M respectively) but I have faith in Lindsey that he could sell the deals and the guys on sacrificing a little for the sake of the team and their current mates who will also need to be re-upped at some point as well as the idea of having some cap flexibility for attracting additional talent.

aside-- remember when ppl wanted to give Green big money? And when critiques were brought up, we were told his rebound was "inevitable"?

Welp. Dude averaged 37.6% from the field on the season. 33% from three. Even BJB put up better numbers.

Some food for thought before we blindly talk about maxing players.

Guilty. What the hell happened to him.

There was no such thing as big money last off season.

Remember Gordon Hayward's "big" max money deal after his rookie contract was up, $16 million/yr? Those are going to cost $25 million soon. A true max is going to be $35 million.

I'm so glad the FO didn't spend "big" money. Ingles and Johnson 4 evar!

Holy hell. I remember Jordan's last season with the Bulls he made $25 mil and I thought that was outrageous.

Jazz expected Johnson and Ingles to be their third wing?

What, did Alec Burks die last offseason?

We've been over this. Even with No injuries at the 1,2,or 3(including Exum) there was still time available because we could swing Burks to the one. What we saw this year of the 3 wing worked pretty well. Remember that Burke guy you wouldn't shut up about it? It turns out he's the worst 3rd string pg on our roster.

The Jazz had the opportunity to buy a heavily front loaded contract. It didn't happen but to even pretend that it would have been a bad move is ridiculous. You're too smart. You understand math. You know better.

Why would Rudy do this. He's a good player. The he article says he will command near max money, and this isn't good for locker room chemistry.

Everybody on planet earth wants the maximum amount of money, doesn't mean that you will get it. Be happy that somebody is promoting Utah and trying to recruit talent to the organization. Quit whining like a 6 year old that dropped his ice cream cone.

Don't get your panties in a bunch. You'll know it if I'm actually whining, idiot!!
