What's new

Shabazz Muhammad

I would take him over anyone in the 2012 draft. This guy will be the best SG in the NBA by his third season.

I know nothing of him outside of this nice video clip.

One thing I noticed is he looks heavy when he jumps. I wonder how long he will last doing that.

Does he do anything besides dunk? after about 14 of the exact same dunk I got bored and turned it off. Why do so many people think everyone who can dunk a ball is the next MJ. There is a sophomore in the local high school here who can dunk better than this guy, but there is no way in hell he ever plays in the NBA

Some people are built for foresight while others enjoy hindsight. It's all good.

As for me, I'm not as high on 'Bazz as many others. Dude can score, for sure. I'm wanting to see a complete game against elite competition. I suspect he'll be a total stud, but I'm not there yet.

I haven't seen much of his right hand but it seems like it doesn't even have to use it to score against these guys, same goes for dunking.

Gimme Jabari Parker please! I started a thread for highlights of great HS players in the general discussion or general nba forum. I can't remember which.

ESPN scouting report on him:

Strengths:
The chiseled left-hander is potent in the open court where he attacks the rim with a vengeance. In the half court set he is very comfortable utilizing a two-dribble pull up where he gets great elevation. Within 15-feet of the basket he is virtually unstoppable at this level and his competitive nature is contagious. He has a knack for scoring in tight spaces or he just elevates over the defense and his touch is remarkably smooth. Muhammad is a good mid range shooter off the catch and can hit open threes with needed time and space although he is streaky. Although, his jump shot has continued to soften and is now a reliable weapon. Muhammad also has the size and athletic ability to be a multiple position lock down defender.

Weaknesses:
Muhammad must work to be a more consistent three point shooter and work on his one on one moves especially going to his right. He needs to get better with his right hand (all left-handed), especially at the next level, but he's a winner and has that desire to be the best. At times he will gamble for steals on defense and pick up cheap fouls.

Bottom Line:
Muhammad is a scoring machine at this level that uses his chiseled physique and electrifying athleticism to get to the rim at will. He rebounds on both ends and is a capable lock down defender. Muhammad can get into a scoring groove and drop big numbers. Each class has a prospect that is willing to do anything to win. For the class of 2011 it was Kentucky-bound Michael Gilchrist. For the class of 2012, it appears to be Muhammad.

So he can dunk the ball. Big deal. I have to see him play against better competition before I get too excited.

Those dunks are very impressive even for a highlight package against scrubs.
The most impressive thing is his work ethic. If we were to add him we'd seriously be hurting on jump shooting, but
we'd be at another level athletically. Favors, Burks, and this kid? Wow....

There's really no chance we get him. He'll probably be the #1 pick in 2013 and our picks are in 2012. That's not a bad thing though, we've got a decent shot at Barnes, Kidd-Gilchrist and Miller. No complaining here.

But can he dunk?

...Seriously, he looks like Lebron in those highlights. But they are just highlights.

I remember watching LeBron's HS highlights and coming away much more impressed than this. Looks more like Tyreke Evans than LeBron to me.

I would hope we will be a playoff team next year. No chance at this guy. Let's not think about him.
