Should The Jazz Waive Juzang?

For who? I’m a big fan of building top-down, and if they can afford to add someone who makes the team better - I’m all for that. . . although I would prefer to look at those options more next year. This season should still be focused on asset accumulation, not consolidation.
For trade flexibility

Tonje can be put on a 2 way.

The Jazz may need the open roster space more than Juzang
Doesn’t he just have perpetual team options on a minimum contract? If so, I’m pretty sure they could just choose to waive him as needed but that the team is locked into the (rather small) cap hit for the current season.

Juzang is a good, cheap player. You don’t often find much better when you’re scrounging through the recycling bin. Maybe waiving him is the smart thing in certain situation, but he is well worth his very team-friendly contract.

It's 2.8 million per year. In return you get a player who is good off the bench, does not have obvious holes in his game and knows all the Jazz plays extremely well. Oh, and by all accounts he gets along great with coaches and other players and wants to be here.

Can you find a markedly better player for 2.7 million? Guys like Juzang and Niang are valuable.
Doesn't have any holes? He is an awful defender. Waived him.

the NBA, a player can be on a two-way contract for a maximum of two years, but only if they have three or fewer years of NBA service. Players with four or more years of NBA service can only sign one-year two-way contracts. Additionally, a player can only spend a maximum of three total seasons on two-way contracts with the same NBA team.

My understanding is Potter has maxed his 2-way in utah. He is either signed or gone. Harkless plays defense see what you got. Springer should also be gone.

Svi is not worth keeping around.

I love Oscar. Keep him around.

Let juzang go. Jazz need 2 way plays on 2-way contracts.

There was another trade today as OKC sent Dillon Jones and a second round pick to the Wiz for Colby Jones who they intend to waive. Colby Jones was a high 2nd round pick by the Kings last year. So if the Jazz waive Juzang, this is the quality of guys they can bring in.

Juzang was a plus defender that couldn't score. Then he was a plus scorer that struggled defensively. I think he puts it together next year and he is cheap for 2 additional seasons.

Harkless had good moments. I think Tonje is a stars player until proven otherwise.

Martin for me was a meh especially at $8 million. That is 300% higher than Juzang.

Potter and Svi are no goes for me.

Don’t see what waiving him gains you at this moment. Plus at $2.8m that’s an option that is forever available to us.

I would bet the house he has no long-term utility but he’s the perfect fringe rotation player for a young tanking team. You can play him 30 min and not risk that he’ll win you a game or bench him for two weeks to play younger, high-upside guys you want to get minutes.

He is cheaply occupying a roster spot for very little $. The moment you can include him as a salary-filler in a meaningful trade, you do it.
