Some thoughts

Though I am indeed the hero JazzFanz deserves but not the one it needs, I decided to check in and shower you with my thoughts thus far on the preseason.

-Quin Snyder! I love the hair, the offense (The spacing looks so much better even 2 games into the preseason), the transition D and the fact that Gordon Hayward seems to be completely sold on his new coach (Good sign).

- Rudy Gobert. If he can ever figure out free throw shooting and a few post moves, he's gonna be relatively big time.

-Dante Exum is really fast and he makes good decisions on the court. Its not hard to see the court vision is elite for a 19 year old. My only concern is that shot. Sometimes he takes a shot off the dribble and it is pretty ugly, but other times I see him shoot and it looks fine. Really hope he figures out that shot in time! It would make him "non relative" big time! Still, He's a few years away. At least we'll see flashes!

- I really want to see some Rodney Hood! Monday?? Let's hope so.

- Why are only 2 of the preseason games televised??

-Alec Burks is gonna score a lot of points this year. The question I have about Burks is will he use 20% of his possessions to shoot the 3 and if he does, can he maintain a 3 point % higher than 35%? If he does that, He's gonna get major pub!

-Kanter hit his first 3 point shot of the preseason. That was awesome!

- I have a feeling Favors is going to have a major defensive year. He seems as engaged as ever and The eyeball test tells me he's making a big impact on the games. I know. It's preseason, but one can't help but hope its indicative of things to come.

- I am thoroughly convinced that Trey Burke will exceed our expectations this year. Seriously. He's gonna do it.

-Lastly, Gordon Hayward's dunk on freeland was incredible. I did not think Gordon could do that. Got up pretty high and he's looking strong.

My guess is that the Jazz are going to win 32 games this year and that we'll be more competitive than last season.

I've seen him blow by guys on several occasions, and I haven't even had much opportunity to watch him. His acceleration is unreal. I'm not sure what you're seeing.

Yep. If there is one thing for Jazz fans to not be concerned about with Dante at this point it's his speed, acceleration, quickness and mobility on both ends for his position.

If Exum is so lightning quick, why doesn't he get to the FT line more often, or even simply breakdown the defense more often?

Not saying his speed is an issue, or I think he is slow, but I'm not seeing this elite speed that was hyped up about him.

He still has a lot of learning to do.

I think he's still trying figure out the offense and trying to play within himself. I don't think he's been given the license or the green light to wheel and deal just yet.

Takes more than speed to draw fouls and finish. His handle isn't as quick as his feet, his touch is hit and miss, and he lacks the know how and weight to absorb the contact that Burks has, at 19, to get fouls called. The speed, vision, frame, and talent, is undoubtedly real, though.

Just want to say that favors has not got enough love by us all so far.

Imo he has been the best player on the team so far...... quietly though

I agree, and I hope it stays that way. I'd love to see him be a quiet 18/10 guy who plays great defense. Him and Gobert at the same time have the potential to be an absolute defensive nightmare for opposing teams, and if Favors can provide nearly 20 points of offense a game it would allow that lineup to flourish.

I'm on record stating that Favors will be and is our best player and the franchise.

I'd say it's the lack of confidence, and the handle. The speed is real. He's had a few hesitation moves (particularly one in the first preseason game IIRC) where he left his defender completely.

Am I the only person who doesn't think Exum is that fast?

I think he is fast with his lateral moves and first step etc but honestly I don't find his court speed impressive at all, as far as I watched so far he gets caught by the athletic guards pretty quick. He's very light on his feet so he reacts very quick but to me he is way too weak body wise to have a really fast sprint.

Btw, I'm just talking out of my rear side, his full court sprint numbers might be impressive or better than most at least, but I just can't check them right now.
