The Case for Alex Jensen

I know Alex is a long shot but here is a case for him. He's from the Majerus coaching tree, served as an assistant to Rick at St. Louis University, was the head coach in the DLeague for two years and won "Coach of the Year" award for his service there, was head coach of the DLeague Select and went 4-1 in the Vegas Summer League last year with a roster of the biggest stiffs ever. He's young, understands the Utah culture and gets this head coach thing.

If it's a choice between Jensen and Boylen, give me AJ, baby!
IOW, the case for Alex Jensen is the possibility of hearing this phrase "Introducing the next Head Coach of the Utah Jazz, Jim Boylen".

He's not top of my list, but I'd take him over many of the other names I've heard bandied about.

That and he has Dleague ties, right homey, right... amiright?

It would be a bold move certainly, but I'd take him over an "established" coach that has failed over and over again. I'd rather have an NBA assistant, but I think AJ would be an ok risk to take.

Anybody with Homey's support is destined to fail.

First Elfrid Payton, and now Alex Jensen??

Damn you Homey, damn you.

I say no. We need a clean break from the Jerry Sloan/Ty Corbin era. We need someone who doesn't give a flip about the Utah culture and is a ninja at coaching defense and doesn't coach Hayffense. This is DL's team and it's time for a new direction!

When I meant understands Utah culture it was more he grew up in the State, went to the UofU rather than the Jazz culture. The only other people from the Rick tree are Dick Hunsucker at UVSU and Tommy Connor at the U and former Westminister head coach. Neither of them has coached in the pros.

Brad Jones also fits that profile having coached both the Flash and then winning a D-League title with Austin. He's from both the "Popovich" and "Sloan" coaching trees. I had my money on Brad since he's very close to Jerry Sloan, as well as Lindsey, with Dennis having brought him over when Corbin needed an assistant.

In any case, I'm sure a new coach will bring in 1-2 assistants, but I expect the rest will be holdovers. Corbin, Sanders and Lowe are gone, but anyone else is a candidate to remain with Utah in some capacity.

He's a defensive coach. That' what he is known for.

Jody Genessy @DJJazzyJody

Player development coaches Alex Jensen and Johnnie Bryant will likely remain on staff, Jazz president Randy Rigby indicated

He would be OK...............but I could act like Green and be against him because he was a gasp Utah University player. Bet Green would be against anyone with a BYU background. Sorry Green the BYU vs. Utah rivalry has no place on Jazzfanz.
