New/rookie coaching staff
No all stars on the team
One of the youngest teams in the league
No real training camp for Harris, Favors, Howard, Kanter, Burks, and Tinsley.
No summer camp for rookies
Lockout kills the young newer teams
Jazz lose starter AK who was a defender and playmaker.
Jazz have no time to practice with condensed schedule.
The fact we are 2-3 is sort of a maricle.
Just making sure myself and the rest are keeping perspective.
As much as I'd like to put lipstick on this pig, I think there are a few holes in your post.
1. Jefferson, Millsap, Miles, Bell, Watson and Evans have all been with the Jazz for at least one full season. Lack of a training camp isn't more of a factor than most other teams. Harris and Favors had almost 1/2 season + the summer to brush up on the playbook. The offense hasn't changed that much: i.e. no one really runs it since Jerry left. Defense is about the same. Doesn;t matter if the players let guys drive to the middle or to the outside; the opponents still get open looks no matter what.
2. Every team brings in a couple of rookies and FA's every season.
3. AK wasn't much of a factor last season as he was hurt. After the all-star break, the Jazz had the same 3-man rotation with the bigs and and PG spots. At the wings, insert Howard instead of AK, but CJ is a vet and Hayward had a full year. As for the rookies, they take the minimal playing time that was being given to guys like Elson and Price; and that should be a net positive!
4. Condensed schedule favors teams that are deep and get out and run. Veteran legs will tire after 4-5 games in a week. That was supposed to be Utah, but Ty has failed to take advantage of the team's depth and youth.
5. It's not a miracle Jazz are 2-3. The home games were against two weak teams. What IS surprising is the lack of development, thus far, from Favors and Hayward. Those guys had terrific opportunities to really step up. So far, they haven't done so.
6. Second biggest disappointment is the team has no clear direction. Are the Jazz committed to developing their young players for the future? Or are Ty and KOC hoping to play for a .500 record with the vets and earn a few extra dollars this season for the Millers. Certainly seems like the latter may be the case. If so, it's extremely short-sighted.
