We upgraded my son's ipad2 to iOS5 and now every app crashes off and on. He starts up just about anything, including Safari, and either it immediately crashes or it crashes after a few seconds. We re-synced and it helped the Safari issues but it didn't help other apps. I suppose some apps just were not upgraded to be able to run stable on iOS5, but we couldn't explain their own Safari app crashing. We called Apple support about the issue and told them about Safari. Their response?
Them: Sir, safari does not crash and runs flawlessly on iOS5. Undoubtedly you bumped the home button as you opened it.
Me: 10 times in a row I just happened to bump the home button while trying to get Safari to open? Really?
Them: Yes. Try opening it now.
Me: Ok. I am using one finger and it is on a table so I cannot bump the home button. Yep, just crashed.
Them: You must have bumped the home button. Safari is stable on iOS5. Is there anything else we can help you with?
Me: Hmm, I guess not.
I am amazed how much Apple support sounds like those videos comparing the Iphone 4 to the Evo. "I don't care. Is it an iPhone? I don't care."
We find that the iPad runs ok after we sync, but strangely it starts getting kind of buggy, with apps stalling and crashing, after a couple of days. Not sure what is up. We are going to take it into an Apple store the next time it starts doing that. That is one thing good about Apple. My wife's iPhone 4 had the problem with the headphone jack where once you plug in headphones it routes all sound to the headphone jack whether phones are plugged in or not. At that point it also wouldn't change volume with the little volume buttons. We took it in and they backed it up then just got out a new one, transferred all of her stuff to the new one and said "Here you go!" That one has worked great, but I am NOT upgrading it to iOS5 until they get the bugs out.
